<p>One to two years, depending on the program, and whether or not you choose/are required to do thesis. All of the programs I applied to can be completed in one year. If you check individual schools' websites, you'll be able to find more information.</p>
<p>It probably works the same in the States as in Canada. Here, we have a research-based degree (master of applied science) and a course-based degree (master of engineering). At my school, the MASc requires 4 courses and a thesis, while the MEng requires 8 courses and a project. Both are completed in two years, but we have a combined bachelor-master program that will take only an extra year to get the master's.</p>
<p>The opnes I've seen require 30 credits (10 courses), with 15 credits taken each semester.</p>
