how low is this score for an international?

I've just got my sat score...it's 1610...reading 540
math 510 (incredibly low, ashamed of myself)
writing 560

Please give your opinion, because I've lost my sense of appreciation . maybe I should take it one more time, just for the math section, but I've got to decide quickly before deadline expires. i have no clue whatsoever
I'm so sad

if u need aid then it would be better to give again

Ummh, I think u should retake it..
if ur applying this year, u still have time. You can take it in January and take the SATs II next month and in December.

Dont feel bad, it happens sometimes. I increased my total score for + than 200 points on my second try.

I think you should retake regardless of what schools you are applying to. Take the TOEFL/IELTS too... they may help to make up for your CR and W scores.

You had better retake. I remember my counselor saying that the average Reasoning SAT score of intls is around 1800.

In my opinion, you would need at least a 2100 to stand out.

thanks...I thought about it this afternoon and I realized this is what I should do indeed. I just had 3 weeks to prepare myself for the sat's..
i was thinking about retaking it in December
andriux retaking it in January would be too late...i mean the deadline for internationals is 1st of January or sth like that...isn't that right?
thank you all for your replies

frankchn I've already taken the toefl and did better there, but i don't think they can really make up for the low sat scores.thanks for your opinion

Super_Cristal:

no, its not too late.. usually u have to send ur application by january 1st , but colleges wait till the january SAT scores are out to start reviewing all the applications.

If u check on the colleges web site, u will notice that in most of them, it says that the last date to take the SAT is january.

Btw, I retook the SAT on january, so I am sure that all colleges I applied to waited for my scores.

ok..another question..I hope you ppl see this one..
I registered for the 1st December (andriuxs I really thought about your advice, but.. in the end I preffered not to risk.thanks anyway)
So... since I am applying to colleges that have more to deal with the writing part( like Hamilton , for eg.-just a dream:P) than anything else, I was wondering if they take into consideration my math score the same way they consider the CR and W scores.
I am saying that because there are only 26 days left till the sat and I would really like to focus more on the CR ant W parts than on math.
Thanks for anyone who reads.

Im also applying in a liberal art college for the fall sem but it doesnt require SAT/ACT but it only needs TOEFL score..

QQ lipinski, which liberal arts college is that? Doesn't require SAT?

MMC in manhattan....

do you know it?
It says intl students dont need sat/act if english isnt your 1st language..
but if your native language is english you have to submit your sat/act

You need 2,300 to be "safe" as an international, generally.

QQ Lippinski I'm glad you found the perfect college for you but ..do you think that if MMC required the sat, they would care much about the math score ? being such a liberal arts college, related to writing?

what is MMC? Can you tell me the full name instead of the abbrev?

There are a number of good colleges that are SAT-optional for both American and international applicants:
Hampshire, Lawrence, Mount Holyoke, Holy Cross...

Here's the entire list:
SAT/ACT Optional 4-Year Universities

^ It depends upon your major. And if they can admit someone with both better writing and math scores, why wouldn't they?

I would say math scores are quite important, and it would be risky not to prepare for the math section as well as you can. Now writing scores are a different matter- the writing section is a relatively new section and many colleges (last I heard) give less consideration to W scores than they do to CR and M scores.

b@r!um I found your list quite useful thanx, but I really hope I'll do better with the sat this time, I'm working a lot harder.
thank you all for your replies

My sat scores are pretty damn sucky too. Like I got 600 R, 490 M, 680 W BUT I DONT GIVE A HOOT anymore. ARGH. I was supposed to retake it in december, but i really don't want to- and i think my scores will just go down if I give it again, while struggling with my mid year exams at the same time, and besides I've gotta take the TOEFL in another few days.

I suppose its alright for me not to retake it- i've got really good grades at school, excellent recs, ecs blah blah....??
I don't know. I hate the SAT's. And I HAATE math.

I think I'm going OCD-d and crazy now, with all this college nonsense.
