How major is your minor?

Do employers look at minors at all? If so how signifigant is it?

I've heard that your major and minor should be closely related (ie Business/Economics) but I'm thinking of majoring in business and minoring in Government because I'd probably take all those classes anyways(because I'm interested in them) is this a bad idea/will this hurt me later?

Majors and minors need'nt be closely related. Actually i believe it is more commonplace for major and minors to vary wildly from eachother, so one can have a more broad education and learn more about other things that they're interested in. You may be confusing a minor with a double major. Generally, double majors should be closely (or pretty close) related so you can take all the prerequisites, focus on similar concentrations, and graduate on time in 4 years. For example, at many schools it is really difficult to double major in Accounting and Journalism because they require very different class tracks.
