I am happy with my score, 31 (31E, 33M, 26R, 35S). This was my third time taking the ACT, and it increased from 29 to a 31. On all my practice tests I get about 31/32. Should I take the ACT a fourth time in December? Would it be worth it? And more importantly, would it look bad to colleges that require all scores to be sent (i.e. some I am applying to that do want all scores: UChicago, Cornell, WashU..etc.). Thanks in advance!

It would be too many.

There is no way for a college to know if you sent all of your scores. Take it as much as you need to but practice. I have took it 7 times and went up 5 points. BTW UChicago takes superscore for the ACT.

Dont take it pass 3 times. I took my 3 times and all three scores are send to my high school and then send to the colleges so they actually know how many times you took it

How about you do not report your score to your High School and it would not be on the transcript. It is option if you want to report it to your high school.

^ I do not know how your school does it but my high school only shows 3 test. It give the score of the first time, latest, and highest.

Don’t take more than four times because you’re wasting your time unless you were sick/ill/etc. on everyone of those tests or you took them more than two years ago.

Alternatively, ACT Inc. allows you to delete test records that you don’t want for any given reason.

In a one year span with hard work, I improve 5 point taking it 6 times. I went up one point recently. One point could be the difference between thousands of dollar.

Take it. You can also have your school remove the older ACT scores and show the one you want. A 31 is a great score, however if there is a chance you might increase why limit yourself.

I don’t want to cancel any scores, as a few of my top choice schools (Stanford, UChicago, Cornell) require all scores to be sent. Would it be wise to take it a fourth time? In addition, isn’t taking the December ACT cutting it really close for app deadlines on January 1st?

[ACT FAQ : How do I delete a test date record?](ACT Registration | ACT Testing Dates | The ACT Test)

Deleting a record means it doesn’t exist, so you can’t send it because there is no existing copy of the score.

I know a girl that took it every time it was offered since she was in the 8th grade. The first time she took it she made a 30!! In her junior year she made a 36!! She can go wherever she wants just because she put in the time… PRACTICE MAKES PEFRECT!!

^ I really doubt that is possible since. Each year offer 6 tests and 12 is the max.

Well, I was told she took it every time, maybe she didn’t. But, she did get a 36! She answered all the questions in 6 ACT books.

I laughed at the statement “she can go wherever she wants just because she put in the time.” And honestly, i’m sure adcoms would either laugh or be shocked by seeing a student take the ACT so many times, then reject her.

Well, whatever!! If she had a great score everytime i don’t see how it would matter how many times she took it.

They would only see all of her scores if she sent them every single time. Unless, of course, the school requires that ALL tests should be sent.
