@preamble1776 - Your username makes that perfect xDD

@ScienceKid99 - I see nothing wrong with learning two languages at once, as long as they aren’t similar (which Japanese and Spanish obviously are not). Here’s a place to read on learning languages if you’re interested: http://www.omniglot.com/language/

Only English.

I can read Spanish because cognates, but that’s about it.

English (native)
Spanish (conversational)
German (a few key phrases)

I speak English, Japanese, and Japanglish (a mix of the former two).
I know how to say “I don’t know” in french, I can pick out meanings in Spanish, and know a few phrases in Chinese, and a word in Russian.

But basically just two languages.

English

French (been taking it 7 years but my french teacher doesn’t make me speak in it this year, so I’m losing fluency)

And I took American Sign Language for 2 years and love(d) it, but they stopped offering higher levels, I got busy, and I haven’t had anywhere to practice (not that I’ve tried very hard).

English-fluently
Bengali-proficiently; I used to be fluent, but lack of practice has made me rusty. I hope to reach fluency again by graduation.
French-conversationally; hope to reach fluency by graduation.
Hindi-used to be fluent when I was four years old because my parents would watch Hindi movies all the time. Now, not so much. Hope to study the language in college.

English
Chinese (conversational)
French (conversational)

Punjabi (native)
English (fluent)
Hindi (fluent)
Spanish (conversational, hope to be fluent soon)

Hmmm…do a lot of you speak more than one language because you’re smart, you are part of CC’s large international/non-US community, were raised with it, or you were just attracted to this post?
Maybe its because I live in Wisconsin but I only know three people who are bilingual: one immigrant from Mexico and two teens whose parents were immigrants.

English (native)
Spanish (fluent)
French (conversational)
