I'll be a senior after this summer, and I'm planning on taking 7 AP classes. I've had 2 as a sophomore and 4 as a junior this year, but my school has a "block schedule", which means you take only 4 classes a day but each is only half-a-year, so the most I'll take at a time are 4 AP's. But I'm wondering if 7 is way too much in addition to the college applications. These are the ones I've signed up for:

AP English Lit.

AP Calc AB

AP Calc BC

AP Stat

AP Biology

AP US Gov't + AP Macroecon. (these add up to be 1 full semester, but still 2 separate AP tests :[

Do you think this schedule will kill me next year? I wanna take an easy load senior year like my friends, but I have top colleges in mind, so...

Wait, so are you taking Calculus AB for one semester and BC for second? That’s pretty much the same thing as taking BC all year long…

Anyways, that’s certainly not an easy schedule but I don’t think you’ll have as hard a time as, say, taking two or three AP sciences at once. If you’re good at math stats shouldn’t be too difficult… I haven’t taken macroecon myself but I’ve heard that it’s really not that hard. Lit and gov do require a fair amount of work.

It’s probably doable. Just be prepared to put in a lot of time and effort, especially if you’re learning a year’s worth of AP material in one semester.

I think it really depends on how hard the AP teachers at your school are. I’m taking 6 APs this (senior) year and it’s too bad for me that I’m also taking the 3 APs that are hands down the toughest classes+teachers in the school. So first semester was certainly interesting… And I don’t get taking both Calc AB+BC either…

I think all my AP classes are practically set in stone except for AP Statistics. Do you think I should drop it for an easier class? I’ve heard it’s a very useful class, and that’s why I chose it, but taking 3 math courses doesn’t really appeal to me (even though I’m pretty good at math).

You are not allowed to take the AB and BC exam in the senior year.
I’m taking 4, 5, or 6 AP’s next year. My schedule looks like this:
AP Calc AB (If I don’t get kicked out for a getting a 54 on my last quiz)
AP Bio
AP Physics
AP Psych
AP Econ (if it works out with my brother school)
AP English Lit

AP English Lit. relatively easy with preparation

AP Calc AB if you are mathematically inclined than this shouldn’t be hard

AP Calc BC Are you allowed to take AB and BC in one year? You can’t sit for both exams, at least that’s what I’ve heard. But the BC exam contains the AB subscore.

AP Stat This class really depends upon your teacher. I thought it would be a walk in the park, but it’s turned out to be my most challenging class (I know, really weird lol)

AP Biology I’m really enjoying this course. It’s pretty easy and with an hour or two of studying before a test, I’m set.

AP US Gov’t + AP Macroecon. I’m taking Gov next year and most people say it’s pretty challenging whilst econ is seen as a pretty simple course (rote memorization).

With the AP’s that you have in mind, your schedule isn’t overly tough, it’s actually pretty sensible. However like anagenesis, I don’t understand why you would take both AB and BC in one year, why not just go to BC?

AP Stat is one of those classes that you either get it, or you’re completely lost. If you get it, you’re set for an easy A. AP Bio is a toughie, since it’s a LOT of concepts AND facts to learn. AP English Lit should be easy. You can’t take the AP Calc AB and BC exams in the same year, so you’ll have to pick one.

Now if you can handle this schedule or not: it depends. Are your teachers very difficult? Are you hard on yourself and striving for that 4.0? Do you procrastinate? Stick with 4 or less. If you want to take all of them, you’ll have to choose between sleep and a social life.

I adore AP Stat. For some reason it comes very easily to me. AP US and AP Euro kill me. How am I supposed to remember what I consider to be arbitrary facts about things I don’t care about. I don’t recommend doubling up on history if history is your worst subject. Haha.

I found geometry exceptionally easy, much easier than Algebra II/Trig and AP Stat is perfect for me. It has a little bit of challenge but is mostly interesting, somewhat but not too complicated concepts. Can your child double up in math? I took AP Stat junior and will hopefully be taking AP Calc senior year.

AP Calc can be rough, depending on who your teacher is. It’s a good class, I’ve learned a lot, and I like her as a teacher, but her tests and quizzes are near-impossible to complete for the average human being (granted, there are exceptions - aka the person who defines our curve O.o)

I think I’ll be taking:
AP Chem
AP Stats/Multivariable Calc (considered to be the same class at my school)
AP English
AP Econ (Macro and Micro are considered to be the same class)
And then a few half-credit electives that look interesting. :)

My mom also wants me to take AP Physics B+C (considered to be one class as well) as well and drop one of the half credits that I really want to take (Constitutional Law), but I guess we’ll see how that turns out.

Since you’re on block scheduling and only have four classes per semester, it shouldn’t be an issue. Block scheduling is great for AP classes, considering the length of each class period.

Wow at everyone’s AP-laden schedules. Too bad my senior year school won’t have many options for me (I’m currently a junior taking 4 AP courses, 1 foreign language course beyond AP level, and an honors class, and am signed up for 7 AP exams in May). The difference in course rigor will be REALLY noticeable lol – it’s because my new school’s so tiny and has so few staff members that everyone pretty much has to take the same classes (except for Honors tracks for English and science). Also, it only offers 1 AP (Calc BC)!

My senior year schedule:

Honors English 12
AP Calculus BC
Spanish 4 (serving as a TA)
U.S. Government (online; have to complete for State of California graduation requirements)
Art Appreciation (school graduation requirement)

Looks like I’ll have to self-study AP English Lit… I’m hoping that colleges won’t hold the lack of options at my new school against me. No science senior year because they only offer up to honors level biology, chemistry, and physics, and I’ll have completed all three… good thing I’m not planning to major in the sciences!
