How many AP classes are attractive to get into IVY School?

I am taking close to 10 AP courses and taking 4 SAT II exams. Of course, this is on top of my great GPA, SAT, and EC activities.

That's nice... lol.

you're cool.

[/sarcasm]

If you're not going to take all 37 then you might as well not take any at all.

I wish I was you.

Haha, seconded.

close to 10 ap? are u taking like 9.725 aps

Depends on your high school. Students at my high school usually take around 4-5, so a student that "stands out" would probably take 7-9. I took/am taking 12 with 2 self-studying for a total of 14 just because my Honors classes are so easy that I become mind numbingly bored.

I don't think Ivies will compare the number of APs from a great student in a bad school with other students in amazing prep schools. It goes on a student to student basis.

You sir, are one of the most humble people I have met on these forums. Even your name - satacer - is a clear indication of the humility with which you've been brought up.

I know! He's so humble! Doesn't the OP have such a great chance at any Ivy League school? Especially since they can see right through pretentious little pricks, whom they despise? Whew, good thing he's not one of those, otherwise he wouldn't get in ANYwhere...

well, because you say you're so great, the ivies will love you to death of course! They like healthy self-esteem, right?

yeah, please tell me how you managed to take 9.5 APs. I want to only take half of calculus!

hpa10, I'm afraid you're probably right, even though you were being sarcastic. :(

I took 7 AP's so far.
Nothing compared to you, I blame my parents dropping me when I was a child :[

Isn't it obvious? He's only taking one of the AP physics C exams. I don't care if they charge full price for each, its only half a test!

Don't blame him too much. If you look at the ones that win the State AP Scholar award (most APs taken and highest average score in each state) you'll find some that have taken more than 20. No wonder that when you try to get merit scholarships there are none left.

the op is an idiot... only ten ap's? you need at least 20 for ivy's

Also, you need to be picked up after they drop you on your head, otherwise you need IB too.

haha agreed with the above, 10 AP's really isn't that much even if you aced the SAT. Ivies will be "attracted" by anything less than 20 AP's, I have 25 so look at who you are competing with.

/sarcasm

Well, if you want your question answered, typically an attractive amount is 5 before senior year, and probably 8+ in your entire hs career.

^ Doesn't that depend on the school? A lot of public schools cap how many one can take a year and small ones sometimes don't even offer eight (my school being an example).

I agree somewhat. A college will not be mad if a student doesn't have as many AP's as another due to his/her circumstances. However, if the student has substantially less AP's than the other applicants (example: a student graduates with only 4 AP's, then it should be a problem. A student then should take initiative, and self-study some.)
