How many AP courses should I take?

I will be a freshman in high school this year. I am planning on taking 6 AP courses throughout my high school career. Would this be enough to get into somewhere like UNC Chapel Hill?

Why is this under what is college chances? 6 APs will be very insufficient for anyone on this forum and UNC Chapel Hill. And AP courses alone do not get you into colleges.

But in the end this is your choice.

I disagree. Different high schools offer different number of APs and some do not allow you to take them freshman or sophomore year, so if this is the case, 6 APs would be a reasonable amount of difficulty. But that alone will not let you into college.

Do what suites you best. I know people that have taken AP course in every course they can and I know people who’ve taken few and they’ve gotten into great schools. AP courses make your transcript look better, but don’t let them ruin your GPA. Take as many as you think will have a good challenge for yourself, and more importantly, take the ones that interest you most. nothing’s worse than sitting in a boring, tedious class that you don’t even feel like trying in.

It is not the number of AP classes you are going to take that matters. It depends on how many AP classes your school offers and what is the average number of AP classes other students in your school take. Considering AP scholar with distinction only requires 5, I don’t see why someone would say taking 6 AP classes to be insufficient. Most important is whether you are challenging yourself and take the most rigorous classes available. Many high schools don’t even offer 6 AP classes.
