How many APs have you taken, or are planning to take, by the time you graduate high school? What are your top choice colleges and what do you think is a good number to take for those?

I’ve taken seven tests.
Three at school, three online, and one self-study.

Next year is my senior year. I won’t be taking any classes but I might self-study something.

My top choices are Reed and Ohio State. How many AP courses someone should take depends on what is available at their school. Colleges can’t expect you to take more tests than your school has classes for.

I’ve taken 10. My top school was Cornell and I got in. I think you should just take as many as you can, like always try to take the AP version of a class that you have to take anyway to graduate and then maybe take other APs that may interest you if there are any. I don’t really see the point in taking a billion, pointless AP classes that you’re not really interested in just because you think it would look good on an application.

I’ve only taken one 1 because it was the only one open to Juniors. Hardly anyone takes any APs at my high school anyway. But next year I’m taking 3 and probably self stud one so in all I will take either 4 or 5.

My top choice is Virginia Tech, but I honestly think I could get in even with just one AP since AP testing is so rare around here and Tech is very regional with selection.

3 so far cause I’m a partial IB student.
But I’ll be a senior next year and by when I graduate I’ll have taken 6 classes and 7-8 tests.

I’ve taken 2 (AP Lang and US History) and I’m taking 5 next year (Art, Calc BC, Bio, Psych, French)… Should I take lit too if I have the option? I signed up for an easier english class because it sounded more interesting and because my schedule is already hard.

I have taken four exam thus so far, and plan to take another four senior year - with the eight corresponding courses.

So far, I’ve taken 6 exams. Next year, I’ll be taking 8, and so my total for all of high school will be 14.

I have taken 9 AP exams thus far, and will be taking 7 exams next year.

Sophomore here. I’ve only taken 1 so far (Euro), and will take 1 or 2 more (Calc AB and/or Stat) in senior year. I’m in the full IB Diploma Programme, so no room for APs on my schedule.

9 so far, at least 6 next (senior) year.

Wow, you guys take crazy amounts compared to my school! Haha, is only taking 7 over all considered not great for top schools?

7 isn’t anything to write home to Mom about, but if you’re doing the maximum your school allows, then you’re fine.

1 freshman
5 sophomore
5 junior
3 senior

Five total ever. Going to Georgetown.

Yeah I feel like my school has different standards, like 5 or 6 is really good haha… But I could be taking more…

5 or 6 is pretty good compared to the average of zero. At top colleges a lot of people will have taken more, though. I think people on here tend to lose sight of the difference between average people and their actual competition at top schools.

Zero. My US History class was advertised to prepare students for the AP exam but I didn’t take the exam.

6 by the time I graduate, the average at my school is like three…

Very few people take AP classes at my school, we’re not very competitive, I’ve taken 2 and will take 4 for my senior year.
