Hello, Im a current sophomore at a prestigious pubic school. I’m interested in applying to some highly selective LAC’s and I’m wondering whether my high school’s policy on AP’s will hurt me in any way. They do not allow freshmen or sophomores to take AP’s and the upperclassmen are only expected to take them if they can handle it. Will the fact that I might only be able take 4 AP’s hurt my chances. I know this is still a long way off but I’ve been wondering this for awhile.
Thanks for your time.
When you apply, your school details their curriculum restrictions to your target colleges. They’ll be informed of what the maximum AP courseload is and colleges won’t dock you vs. someone who is able to take more at their HS.
This is a rather common policy. It won’t hurt you as it should be stated in the school profile report.
It depends on the school but most kids don’t have a lot of APs in freshman and sophomore year and still end up with 8-10 APs. But you are viewed in the context of your high school.
