Do you know? How common is it! An admissions representative said at my school that to be competitive, the GPA should range from 3.6-4.0. How many people with that low of a GPA get in though? Please answer!!

I got in with a 3.65 and 27 ACT.

I think this really depends on in-state vs. out-of-state.

I had a 3.7 weighted and a 27 ACT… I didn’t even bother applying cause I was just gonna go to a community college for a lil bit. Got in as a transfer though.

got in with a weighted 3.52 GPA. but I got a 4.32 GPA first semester of my senior year so i’m assuming that was the only thing that made the difference…

Out of state, 3.7 GPA. But hellaz ECs and 34 ACT and upward trend FTW.

I got in with a 3.78, but I took 10 APs and I had a 34 ACT. If you’re instate, a 3.7 isn’t going to kill you, provided you took some challenging classes, have solid ACT, and some decent ECs.

How much more difficult is it for an out of state student top get in the U Mich (Ross in particular)

For LSA / CoE it is more difficult to get in as an oos - to what degree is debatable. For Pref. Admit Ross though, I don’t think there is much of a difference if any.

EDIT: Double Post…

I had a 3.8 unweighted gpa. and a 5.2333/5.0 weighted gpa.
2160 sat
31 act

I had a 3.2 if I remember right. It’s all over the place.

I got in with a 3.63 GPA, 31 ACT and 1990 SAT.

I got in with a 3.8 uw and a 29 ACT. instate and great ec’s

Assuming you attend a regular high school and take a regular list of courses and have regular ECs and standardized test scores, anything less than a 3.7 will likely lead to a rejection. But as the sentence above suggests, Michigan looks at much more than just GPA. They will consider:

The intensity of the school. At some high schools, a 3.3 is excellent. 3.6 students get into HYPS, 3.4 students get into other Ivy League schools and 3.2 students are admitted into Michigan.

Curriculum. Most applicants to Michigan only take 2 AP courses during their Junior year and another 2 during their Senior year. If an applicant has taken 4 AP classes as a Junior and another 4 AP classes as a Senior, a slightly lower GPA will be overlooked.

A student who excels at an EC that requires a great deal of time commitment will also be given special consideration. If a student has reached the level of concert pianist or os the starting QB for a top high school football team, a slightly lower GPA will be overlooked.

Combined with a 2200+ on the SAT or a 33+ on the ACT, a slightly lower GPA (3.6 or so) may also be overlooked.

All of this is changing rapidely. Michigan’s applicant pool is growing at an alarming rate. In the near future, most qualified candidates will be rejected.
