Does anyone know how many people audition for the BM degree in Music Theatre? How many are admitted?

EDIT: I just remembered that all freshman audition for general music and then choose their degree program after their first year. So, if that poses a problem, then does anyone know the class size of the BM Music Theatre degree program?

There are no specific numbers for the BM Music Theatre program in the School of Music in terms of how many audition, how many they admit, because they are looking at all students who enter with voice as their primary instrument as their admitted numbers in terms of voice studios. Also, some students switch emphasis… Music Theatre, Vocal Performance, Music Industry, Music Education… over the course of their four years.

There are very few students in the BM Music Theatre emphasis… maybe a total of 5 or 6 spread across the four classes.

The BM Music Theatre emphasis students are music majors with voice as their primary instrument. A portion of their repertory in voice lessons is musical theatre. They take a small number of courses in the School of Theatre & Dance with the BA Musical Theatre students… 1 - 2 acting classes, 2 dance classes, 1 - 2 musical theatre performance classes, 3 Theatre/ Musical Theatre technical/ design/ history classes. BM students may audition for all plays and musicals in the School of Theatre & Dance, and may take additional classes in Theatre and Musical Theatre on a space available basis.

The BA in Musical Theatre is an auditioned program with approximately a 10% - 15% admit rate depending on the year. There are approximately 40 - 45 students total across the four classes. The BA students take their voice and music classes in the School of Music, may audition for and participate in choirs and opera performances in the School of Music.

The programs are auditioned and administered completely separately… The BM Music Theatre program does not require a dance or monologues as part of the audition… the BA Musical Theatre program does in addition to the songs. The song requirements are also quite different.

Some students do choose to audition for both the BA and BM programs.

The focus is different for each program, but the students do work together in classes and productions.

Please let me know if you have additional questions. :)
