How Many "B"s Are Too Many?

Just out curiosity...

How many classes could you probably get "B"s in throughout high school (or at least up until the time when applications are submitted) and still be admitted to colleges such as Duke, WashU, Dartmouth...? I know the number of "B"s you get does not make or break your chances, but how many would be considered acceptable and within normal range?

I'm thinking maybe 2 "B"s a year? Perhaps a total of 5 by application-time? This would mean about 3.85 UW GPA. Any ideas?

Well, it depends. A "B" in AP Calculus is a lot different than one in a regular Algebra I class or something.

Essentially though, you don't want any at all. And if you do have some, you want to still be in the top 5% of your class.

how can you have a 3.85 UW with 5 Bs?

i have 2 Bs and a 3.75 UW in core academic courses from grades 9-11 (school grades 90-94 as 3.75)
