i'm packing for my college and oh boy there are way too many stuffs.
right now i have like 7-8 boxes of stuffs that i want or need to bring with me.
i'm trying to get down to like 5 boxes or so (which seems impossible right now)

how many boxes (or perhaps whatever u are using to transfer your stuffs) are you going to bring to your college?
ahhh i really hate an idea of having too many stuffs for moving-in and -out.

I sent 2 18" cube boxes on wednesday with most of my stuff excluding bedding and towels and stuff (which I ordered online and will be waiting for me when I get there).

Do you really need everything in those 7-8 boxes?? Remember, shipping stuff is expensive, so is there anything in your boxes that might be cheaper to re-buy or order online?? Some stores are having free shipping sales because of the season so look around. Also, those vacuum bags (space saver? something like that) really work for getting volume down. it will still be heavy, but there will be less boxes.

Haha, I brought fourteen boxes to college (the kind grocery stores pack a dozen boxes of eggs in), plus two bigger ones.

Might be a good idea to buy some Rubbermaid containers. I have 10 or so, and they've been very helpful to me each year when I move to a new room in my dorm. Plus they double as storage containers to stow under the bed.

lol u all crazy?
Im packing one big container for my cloths.. a laundry bag with folded cloths a plastic container with my books, awards, memories, posters and 3 school bags to my boarding school!

i have one box of regular clothes,
then i have another box of thick clothes
then i have a printer box (old=therfore pretty big)
one box of computer related stuffs
another box of stuffs (including an yearbook. slr camera hehe)
another box of cds
and another box of computer (imac)

and laptop and a guitar
and bath and bed stuffs are waiting at my dorm

that's really AFTER i have reduced and get rid of like 2 boxes of stufs alright
what shoudl i do T_T eww

Do people bring suitcases with them instead of or in addition to shipping boxes? It would cost me a lot less to pack my things in suitcases and bring them with me (I'll be travelling alone by train), but I am worried there won't be any room in my dorm for empty suitcases.

unless your planning on using those suitcases as storage containers, maybe a better idea to pack things in boxes…in a Dorm, there’s usually nill “extra” room

i will put my regular clothes into a suitcase and bring that,
and i think i will unpack computer stuffs and other random stuffs(school supplies) and put them into another suitcase.
but still that's alot of stuffs -0-;; eww

yeha i dont know what to do about that extra desktop computer (iMac).
i love it and i can't just throw it away or give away.

(i'm an international student, so i dont have a family or a house in US, so i gotta bring all my stuffs or throw/give away stuffs i wont bring)

ohh right. could you have one computer you leave at home to use while your there and another you leave at school so you don't have to lug one back and forth?

I'm flying to my school so what I'm doing is I'm packing my clothes and riding stuff (I ride horses, thus the sn) in two suitcases (also other stuff that I shipped in boxes) and they're omg brain fart, there's a specific word for it that I know I'm just tired, where you can put one inside the other? nestable, that's it, and I have a little lock for them, so I figure I'll put my stuff that I don't want to get stolen in the smaller suitcase, lock it, and then nest in in my bigger one, and put it somewhere. maybe it can act as a table or something? I'm also using part of one of my mom's suitcases, so she'll justtake that one back with her, and when I go home over winterbreak I'll bring back the clothes I havn't yet worn, so I'll have room for my stuff for when I leave. I'll also ask my dad to bring an empty suitcase with him that I can use when packing my stuff up to leave the dorms (he's in driving distance so I'm just keeping my stuff at his place).

try duffle bags instead of suitcase along with an under the be container. If you're going to empty the stuff in container into drawers and shelves around your room you can then fold up the duffle bags and store them inside the container under your bed. Also the bags can squish where as suitcases, plastic containers and boxes can't

1 18 gallon container of sheets, bed stands, desk lamp and few other things thrown in there
1 22 gallon container holding shower caddy, towels, a few textbooks that I bought already, clothes hangers
1 med. crate holding detergents (one for white clothing, another for color) chlorox cleaning wipes, stain remover
1 printer
1 backpack (holding my laptop and peripherals)
1 med. luggage holding clothes
