I would like to get a few courses out of the way before I head to college next fall, so I thought enrolling in my local CC's summer semester would be a good idea.

More specifically I would like to take 3 semesters of calculus and 2 semesters of physics... Would this be too much to handle for one summer? Should I spread these courses out between this summer and next?

Please help me out, I'm unfamiliar with how CCs work.

wow…that really sounds like a lot! i don’t know about physics, but CC summer math classes are usually condensed into 1 month. i think you’ll end up forgetting most of what you started with if you try to cram that much math into 3 months, but i can’t speak from experience.

i guess it would ultimately depend on your major (are you going into a math/science/engineering field? if so, don’t speed through calculus or you’ll have trouble in higher classes), and your math abilities.

Nanotech, i only have to take 2 semesters of math for my major and I’ve heard that calculus is really hard at the school I will be attending. I’m not a great math student so I just want to get it out of the way and as long as I make above a C-, only the credit will transfer and it will not effect my GPA.

The 2 semesters of math at the school i’m going to are broken into 3 semesters at my local CC. If I saved physics for next summer do you think I could handle just Calculus?

I’m knocking out calc I and II this summer, but I plan on transferring into finance down the road so I won’t necessarily need the knowledge for later math courses as much as a physics/math/engineering major would.

im a geology major so all the math i need is 2 semesters of calc

i’d say as long as you only need it for credit and not necessarily the knowledge, you could do 2 calculus classes over summer as long as you’re willing to do alot of condensed work (summer math classes are usually looong!). if you’re going to take calculus-based physics courses, save those until next summer. If, however, you’ll take algebra physics, you could do them at the same time, but it will really depend on how much work you want to do.

I think with summer classes it’s good to take a couple online courses, if your CC offers them. That way, you’re not at the school for hours on end during the summer. That’s not the best thing.

I’d say 3 because it fits a budget and you don’t kill your summer this way. Also, look at the college you want to transfer to. Some schools just accept up to 12 summer credits and some others don’t accept online courses.
