Im contemplating whether or not I should take five classes (about 15-18 units depending on the class) a semester because my friends tell me that I'm going to burn myself out. Does anyone have personal experience on how it was like taking 5 classes per semester? Or even 4? Did your social life really go down the drain or you still managed to get some weekend friend outtings?

I took six classes both semesters of last year. It was rough and did take up a good deal of my free time. I don't reccomend it if you want to have a wonderful social life.

I took 16 credits last semester along with working 30 hours a week and a few other activites.
Did it burn me out? Yes.
Did I have a full "social life"? No.
Was it worth it anyway? Yes.

If you aren't working 15-18 units isn't bad though.

Nice. WHat college do you guys attend? I'm going to start at Mt Sac. beginning Aug 15th

at a JC I took 17 units, worked 30 hrs/week, and partied hard every weekend.

I usually took, on average, 18 units per semester while working around 30 hours per week and had a pretty good social life. It really depends on your classes though; it's not advisable to take calc, physics, bio and chemistry all in one semester.

I take 13-14 credits per semester, which is four courses plus labs. Minimum for full-time for me is 12, so I'm not pushing myself.

Yeah I'm probably going to take 5 classes (3 being honors).

What classes do you guys recommend me taking from the art, physical and biological sciences sections? Im planning on taking music appreciation honors and earth science honors along with the lab. For biological science, I'm just going to take general biology. Does anyone know of any other courses to take that might be easier? thanks

i took 21 credit last semster. 8 classes

To those who took close to 18 credits, worked 30 hours a week AND had a "good social life"--what were your grades?

I did it last spring (2004.) I got 3 A's and a B. I worked 40 hours graveyard, was in the college musical and took 17 units.

This fall, I'm taking 20 units (College Algebra and another 15 units. Those units consist of major prep for Poli Sci ( 2 classes.) and some courses to fill out the IGETC requirements (The other three.) and will be working 15 hours a week.

Last semester: 17 credits, 11 hours/week volunteering, 10 hours a work working. That's right, I like my volunteering more than my job.

Summer: 13 credits (six first half, seven second), 12 hours/week+, volunteering turned into really good work :)

Fall: 15+ credits, probably 15+ hours a week or work.

Gabe, a 4.0

Spring 05 semester
40 hrs work 8-5 M-F
11 units (all As)
picked professors VERY carefully
social life about 1/3 of normal (I don't consider that a good social life)

Professor selecton will determine how much 18 units will cost you in terms of time and effort. Don't choose randomly or choose a section where "STAFF" is listed as the instructor.

Well, a science class at my school is 5 units which meets 9 hrs a week.

So i usually a science and a math class(5 units) + some GE or two

Usually 13-4 units.

The most classes i took was fall 2004 with 18 units. The least, fall 2003 a with a wopping 6 units. taking alot of classes ****ing sucks

4 units...or 16 semester hours.

Past Spring - 17 credits
This summer - 21 credits

is it common to have year long classes in the states?

I took 4 year long classes (1.0) and two semestered classes (.5)

Gabe, I got 4.0s too
