How many classes should an incoming freshamn take?

Hi! I'm wondering if twenty credits for the fall quarter are too many for an incoming freshman! Thanks.

I THINK only honor students can take 20 units.
Yes, it is too much but if you can handle it… go for it.

Sounds like a big transition from High School to College. I’m only taking 14 units to gauge what it’s like then the next quarter I will judge the appropriate amount, I’m honors too though and I originally planned on taking 18!

most people take 3 or 4 classes; 20 units is like… 5 right?

it depends on what classes you are planning to take… almost no one i know has ever taken 20 units. 4 classes ranges from 16 to 18 units… class + discussion and sometimes lab… all your days will be filled with school if you do take 20 units. just see how you like 4 classes first… after you start going to your classes and think that 4 is too much, you can still drop classes during the first two weeks of school. As long as you have 3 classes, you will receive financial aid. that’s just incase you the transition doesn’t go too well.

i took 4 classes my first qtr here (17 units). the classes weren’t too hard… so it wasn’t bad. i just had class all the time… :</p>

anyway, if suggest you don’t do it for your first quarter in college. you don’t quite know what you’re up for yet. it’s possible to graduate early (depending on your major) by taking four classes every quarter (and maybe some summer school too)… if thats what you’re aiming for.
