How many classes should I take per term in community college?

I’ll be a freshman at Orange Coast College this August and I plan on transferring to UCLA as an art major after two years.
This is my current planned schedule for this fall.

ENGLISH A100 (3 credits) : Freshman Composition
MATH A180 (4 credits) : Calculus 1
ART A120 (3 credits) : Beginning Drawing
ART A110 (3 credits) : Color & Design: 2-D

Would 4 classes per term (Fall & Spring) for the next two years suffice to transfer or would I need more than that? I’d be really grateful for any input you have on this.

You should plan for at least 30 units a year. You need a minimum of 60 units by the Spring before you start at a UC the following Fall. Check Assist.org and check the UCLA transfer profile

Also in addition to the 30 units/ year, also make sure follow the transfer requirements for Art at UCLA (listed below from assist.org.) Make sure all your classes are UC transferable. Lastly, just to keep it real, the acceptance rate for Art majors is only 9%. They accepted 16 or 17 transfers last year, out of 188 applicants. Definitely have viable back up schools, and make sure you’re meeting their requirements as well.

“Preparation for the major: One course each in drawing, sculpture, painting,
photography, ceramics, and new genres [performance art, video art, installation,
and non-studio work]; four courses in art history, including one course covering
each of the following art historical periods: 1850s-1920s, 1920s-1960s,
1960s-present.”

Keep in mind you can also sprinkle in an easy class (or two) each summer, if you want to ensure you get things done in time.

Don’t do math, physics, chemistry, etc. during the summer because it will be very intensive, but find easy GE classes … especially ones online. It can lighten your load during spring/fall if you plan accordingly.

OCC also offers intersession classes in January too. You can take one class at that time. It’s units not number of classes that you need to be counting. Also note, another session of Summer starts on 6/27.
