I'm taking practically my whole closet.

I can't get rid of my 30+ t-shirts, jackets, sweaters, shorts, pants and shoes!

I'm taking practically my whole closet.

I can't get rid of my 30+ t-shirts, jackets, sweaters, shorts, pants and shoes!

… overkill…

you only need a week or two at most.

agreed, bring a little more than two weeks

everything minus what I give away to goodwill

A ton! I’ve got like 30 shirts, 10 cardigans, 3 sweatshirts, 6 Jeans, 6 Shorts, 10 dresses, 10 T Shirts, 10 Socks, Workout clothes, PJs, Underwear, Bras, and shoes. Our closets are pretty big, there’s dressers in the closet and our beds are 9" underneath PLUS 8" Bed risers so lots of under bed storage

i’ll take 5 poloes, 6 button downs, a few abercrombie shirts, a few pairs of shorts, a pair of jeans, and some flip flops.

5 plaids, 4 oxfords, 4 plain t’s, 3 undershirts
3 pairs of jeans, 3 pairs of shorts, 2 pairs of basketball shorts
15 pairs of underwear
2 pairs of chucks, 1 pair of sperrys

Oh yeah, 3 sweaters, 1 jacket, and 1 pair of chinos

I’m probably going to end up taking a LOT clothing. I am extremely fashion-conscious and I’m moving somewhere with weird, unpredictable weather. I don’t want to take any chances. I haven’t even started packing my clothes yet because I’m so overwhelmed though.

Also, it’s not like I will be able to come home frequently to switch off clothes.

I probably won’t be really thinking of winter gear though until around November or so.

Let’s see…
-7 or 8 pairs of jeans (depending on whether I get one hemmed in time)
-One pair of dress pants
-One pair of shorts
-Two jackets (one leather, one rain appropriate)
-One winter coat (probably won’t take until Thanksgiving)
-9 hoodies (seems excessive but I wear one everyday)
-12 pairs of socks
-However many pairs of underwear and bras I have
-Probably 10 or more t-shirts (haven’t counted)
-5 pairs of pajama pants
-A couple of dress shirts
-One pair of nice boots
-Two pairs of sneakers
-A bathing suit

It is kind of excessive now that I look at it. I might retire a few hoodies before I go, but I have favorites that I’m reluctant to stop wearing even though they’re a lot worse for the wear. I might have to make a rule to eliminate anything with holes in it. I have way more than I did last time I went away to school.

3 pairs of jeans. 4 or 5 athletic shorts. 8 or 9 polos. 3 khaki shorts, 1 khaki pants, 5 oxford button down shirts, a couple of ties and 2 jackets. 1 pair dress shoes, 1 pair sperry topsiders 1 pair tennis shoes some flip flops a bunch of underwear and undershirts and 7 t shirts or so.

and then different stuff I will get later for winter months

I am going to bring 7 t shirts, 5 or 6 nice tops, three or four hoodies, five pairs of shorts, a pair or two of jeans, one pair of khakis, my suit, two or three workout outfits, and two weeks worth of socks and underwear. I am overdoing it a bit but I tend to go in spurts whether I feel like wearing t shirts every day or whether I feel like dressing up.I will also bring some kind of light jacket and my raincoat, and two pairs each of pajama shorts and sweatpants. Eventually I will take home the shorts and add three or four pairs of jeans and some sweaters, and a winter coat. I will start out in decent shape but by the time I come home for summer I will have way too many clothes. In the winter I wear all the same things I wore in the summer, except the shorts, plus a few other things so I end up accumulating more.

I am nowhere near prepared to make a decision about shoes. I know I will have the nikes I tend to wear every day, my adidas sandals, some dressier sandals, and my rainboots-- eventually to be swapped out for my snow boots.

6 pairs of jeans
6 summer dresses
2 dresses
2 pair dress pants
4 dressy shirts (chapter)
5 cardigans
1 Fleece
8 hoodies
10-12 fitted t shirts/v neck t shirts
20 t shirts (I work out a lot)
5-6 going out shirts
6 sweat pants
8 pair athletic shorts
4 pair shorts
9 pairs of shoes (flip flops, 2 flats, 2 dress shoes/heels, running shoes, nice pair air max, vans slip ons, timbs, birkenstocks)
2 winter jackets
Seems excessive, but my school’s in Cleveland so I need to bring summer, fall and winter clothes considering I won’t be able to go home until Thanksgiving. If you’re a girl, you need a wide variety of clothes because there are so many different types of situations, and you want to have stuff for casual get togethers, house parties, bars, clubs and dinner parties, plus business casual for chapter/interviews/presentations/forums etc;. All of my girl friends pack more than I do though. I can fit everything in the dorm closets/dressers, but it’s harder in my apartment.

Basically my entire wardrobe…so easily 3 weeks of clothes.

I’ll probably bring all of the shirts that I wear (so around 30), about 8 or so camisoles for underneath them (so that those shirts are long enough, I’m 5’11"), 4 or 5 pairs of shorts, I can think of at least 6 pairs of jeans that I will bring (provided they still fit), underwear of course, some dressy clothes, some sweatpants/shorts, 3 ugly red polos for work, black pants for work and other dressy clothes in case I need them.

Sorry for the terrible run-on. I’m moving about 20 minutes away, so I’m not concerned about forgetting anything.

All the clothes I like and wear regularly. I don’t want to have to spend much on clothes on top of all other college-related expenses.

This translates to:

I’m just bringing as much of it as I can. No one’s going to wear them when I’m gone-- Why not? Just don’t pack things you don’t wear often.

^

I would suggest bringing a lot more than 6 pairs of underwear. I wouldn’t do laundary every 6 days.

Oh, definitely. I’m going to buy at least one other pack when I get there. And, yay for no sales tax!

Yeah so for underwear and socks two weeks should be a minimum. Those were always the limiting reactant, so to speak, that determined when I had to do laundry, and I had 12 days worth.

Unfortunately I was at a school where the weather in the morning (10-11 AM) would be cold and afternoons hot and evenings cold so in a lot of days I went through three pairs of clothing. I’m talking about like 15 degree variations easily. Not to mention days where it rained (yet only for like an hour or two). Ugh California.

As far as general clothing, the only thing you may want to be very well supplied in is party clothes. No one really notices what you wear on normal days (it’s college- half the students in class are asleep, the other half are on facebook), but people will notice if you’re always wearing the same things to parties. Count formal functions in too. If you like dressing up for things as common as hall dinners, make sure you have enough formal clothes so you aren’t repeating yourself.

That’s my two cents to add.

holy crap guys… do you really have room for all of that? seriously?

Pants can be reworn several times before needing to be washed, same for hoodies.

Only thing i would bring 20-30 of is underware and socks…

Do I have room for it all? Yup.

As for jeans, I tend to rewash them every time because I have a bad habit of wiping my hands on my pants, so they need washing. I will wear hoodies a few times before I wash them though. Still, I don’t like to wear the same hoodie every day, and since I wear one every day I cycle through a lot.
