I'm involved in crew, and that's enough for me.

I'm trying to assess the "average" amount of clubs a college student is involved in. How many official* activities do you partake in without jeopardizing your academics?

*You actually devote your time and energy into, not something you'll plop on your r

Just two. Coordinating intramural badminton, and soon-to-be on the school newspaper’s executive board. Even these two might be pushing it for what I can handle, but we’ll see.

In college, I’d say it’s highly unlikely to find a student with a laundry list of clubs like high schoolers like to put in chance threads.

Sigma Alpha Iota (music fraternity, will be co-editor this coming year)
Psychology Club (was secretary for 2 years, but gave the position up)
Matins Choir (co-director, but this is more of a job than a club)
Kantorei (chapel choir, I assisted the section leader this year, and would probably be section leader of Kantorei next year if I go there instead of Chorale, which is the touring choir)

This past year I wasn’t involved in a lot, but I’m planning on joining more in the fall because I feel like I still have extra time.
I was in the Colleges Against Cancer club at my school (chair position next year, we organize Relay For Life on campus and other stuff). Also, I was a mentor for pregnant and parenting teens, but can’t continue next semester because of schedule conflicts. I loved it…so sad I have to wait until my schedule allows it.
Next year, I’ll be on the yearbook team and I’m going to try to work at the admissions center!

I pretty much tried out or at least researched every club there is on campus at my state uni. It turns out a lot of them are poorly managed or just dont interest me enough to go every week. Some take a lot of energy and is not worth the time since I dont get a lot out of it. I ‘joined’ a lot but it quickly settled down to about ~2 main ones: men’s choir and a few others I rarely go to but still enjoy so we’ll count that as one (one of them being tennis club). Honestly, with a decently hard course load, you wont have time for clubs. Especially when you want to do other stuff like exercise at the gym

I’m involved in the improv club, and since that rehearses 3 times a week (we take it very seriously, we travel to conferences and competitions multiple times a year) its the only official club I’m involved in.

I write for the paper and I work in the writing center. The other “clubs” on my campus are either poorly organized, or irrelevant to me. I’d like to get a little more involved this coming year, but I’d rather do something I enjoyed than something I don’t really care for just to fell more “involved”.

I’m not in any club. I just don’t care to be in one. I think it’s great to be in one if it fits an interest, but being in one just to put it on your resume/grad school application is kind of lame (in my opinion).

I’m starting school next year and I intend to be in the student theatre troupe, debate team, and College Democrats, and I want to join the community service group as well.

Hopefully I can manage it all, if not I’ll cut College Dems first because while it’s fun to hang out with like-minded people I see it as the least important. And I think it would also be cool to work on the radio station, but I might wait a year or two before trying that.

I play a varsity sport (DIII, so I have time for other commitments). Other than that, I’m an editor for a campus publication (which is pretty time-consuming), involved in a music group, and a volunteer for a Special-Olympics-type club. With my job and my workload, it’s a lot, but that last one is only like an hour a week so it isn’t too much, especially during the off-season.

I’m president of one club, a minor officer in another, on the boxing team, and ran unopposed for student senate. It’s a few things, but not too time consuming.
