How Many Colleges Are You Applying To?

edit: I just found out some new info.

8 Super reaches
2 reaches
2 matches
1 safety

2

When money decides where you go, theres no reason to apply to 10 schools.

6..

2 reaches
1 slight reach
3 safeties/matches

10, but I'd apply to a lot fewer if money weren't the primary issue.

In terms of whether or not I'm likely to be able to get in and afford going:
2 reaches
4 reaches/matches
3 matches
1 absolute safety that I absolutely do not want to attend ;-)

one super reach
one slight reach
6 matches
1 safety

3 reach
1 match

intls......wont spend money on colleges without aid...

18 or 19 ..........too many you think?

1 financial/incredibly slim chance of not getting in safety

2 safeties

1 safety/match

1 match/reach

3 far, far, far, far reaches

8 total

17
3 safeties
4 Safe Matches
1 Match
2 Reaches
7 Super-Reaches

17!? See what I don't get is why spend so much money..do you really need that many super reachers?

7
one safety
two safety/matches
four krazy reaches

my friend is applying to 16, and our guidance counselor actually yelled at him, like LITERALLY yelled at him...

12+ is freaking O.D. Why do you need so many? I even regretted applying to 8. Ideally 4-6. Why do you need so more? I get a feeling people just like these 3-4 schools they know they won't get into, but are hoping for some miracle.

^I never wanted to apply to 8. I wanted 6, but I just got really indecisive, and I think 8 is too many. :p I totally agree with what you said though ;)

My family is pretty poor, so I need as many FA options as I can get. The common app makes it so easy, too. And with fee waivers available to people like me, why not?

I feel bad cuz i gave my counselor like have of the letters of rec to fill out only (which was about like 10) and she spent the entire day on it and now I have to give her like almost another 10 and I gotta say IM a bit scared to give it to her cuz im sure she'll have a heart attack or faint or soemthing.

half*, wow, I can't spell.

10 schools

3 safeties
3 matches
4 reaches

2 app fees ($35 & $40)!!! w/free online and schools just giving me fee waivers!

Unless someone is sure they're going to get into their top choices, I think it's best to apply broadly . . . I think I'll get into about half of the colleges I applied to, so I want to have my options open, just to be on the safe side ;)

People apply to a lot more reaches now than before... I don't really understand why. Thoughts?

I thought that counselors generally advised students to apply to 2 safeties, 2 matches, and 2 reaches or something like that.

3 only, I've already been accepted into 2.
