I heard from my counselor that we should apply to only 7 schools. But I really think that this is because she is lazy and stuff. Am I right? Do you guys really apply to only 7 schools?? I was thinking maybe 13 schools.. What do you guys say?

somewhere around CC, there was a thread similar to yours. I have seen people applying up to 20 or slightly more. i personally think 7-9 is a reasonable amount

At first my base was like 15. Then went to 12, then to 10. In the future, I'm pretty sure I'm going to apply to at least 7 schools. If something changes, I'll probably add 2 to that. But yes 7-9 is basically a good number.

11 or 12
That's just me though.

I applied to 6 and it wasn't enough. I'd say go for 8-10.

I'm apply to 10-15. I have 10 that I'm definitely applying to, and a few that I'm considering. I'll probably end up with like 12. My gf is planning on applying to 20+.

I'm applying to 3.

Probably 12-15 schools.

Right now, I'm thinking 5. UMich is my safety (I'm in-state), then Carnegie Mellon, Tufts, Wesleyan, and UMiami (another safety).

I was also gonna throw on a couple that have free online applications, such as Case Western and American, but those don't really count. XD My family was more concerned about the cost of application fees than anything else.

I applied to 12 myself and I thought it was a pretty good number overall, if not just a little less like 9 or 10.

I applied to 6. Worked fine for me.

I applied to 8.

8 planned......

12-18 depending on outcome of early plan decision...

7 schools.

Syracuse- first choice
NYU
Michigan
U Cinncinati
Penn State
Point Park
Baldwin-Wallace

There's a thread here that shows the results of how many people applied to how many colleges: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=154614

Almost a full 40% applied to 10 or more. I guess you can apply to as as many colleges as you want as long as you can manage it. If you go to a big school, it might be understandable why your guidance counseler recommends 7, which is a pretty typical amount.

I`m going for 11-12, and if I really can't size it down I'll en d up doing probably around 15.

wow 10-12 seems like overkill to me... for the people looking at that many, how many reaches/matches/safeties are you applying to? 6 or so seems pretty good (2 reaches, 3 matches, 1 safety)... are there just that many schools that you're in love with and would consider attending?
