If it's the right four, thoughtfully and accurately selected, you're fine.

16, hopefully I get into one.

13 schools (in order from favorite, to least favorite)

Brown
Johns Hopkins
Wash U
Georgetown
Williams
Tufts
Canegie Mellon
USC
NYU Stern
Colgate
Lehigh
Bucknell
BC

I did 15 BUT 6 of those were UC's. 7 of the 9 private schools are on the common app. The essay I wrote basically worked well under all of the apps, with a little bit of change. And the extra stuff, like short answers etc. weren't too bad. It's all about time managment when you apply to lots of schools. The problem with me was that I didn't have a clear cut list until very late. I kept on changing my mind but it all worked out in the end :)

I did 20:
Harvard
Yale
Stanford
UPENN
Dartmouth
Brown
Duke
Georgetown
Wash U
Northwestern
Cornell
University of Notre Dame
UC - Berkeley
UCLA
UCSD
Tufts
Boston College
Tulane
University of Michigan
SUNY Binghamton

i did 11, but 10 were common apps

binghamton, penn state (no essay)
tulane, miami, bu, georgetown, nw, brown early, cornell, michigan and carleton

so far, 2 for 2, brown = deffer

9:
Georgetown
U of Chicago
Michigan
U of St. Louis in Madrid
Princeton
Harvard
Yale
Columbia
McGill
I was planning on more, but then I got into Georgetown and Chicago, so I only applied to those that I might consider going to if I got accepted.

I applied to 1
I recommend 5-7

wowww... stanmaster, you're crazy. :P good luck when you have to choose between all of them!!

haha, i guess i'm not one to talk either... 13. maybe 14... trying to decide if i should apply to baylor or not.

7 reaches, 4 matches, 2-3 safeties. i just did this many because i'm reeeally paranoid... but you can't blame me, can you?

7 schools (3 ivys)

Check my profile for schools and other info =)

I applied to 7:

Furman
Wofford
Wake Forest
UNC-Chapel Hill
UNC-Asheville
Elon
James Madison

I applied to..... 18.

Everyone thinks I'm insane when I mention the number, but it doesn't seem so extravagent to me. When I started the application process, I was fairly sure I wanted to attend a public school, so I applied to CSU Chico (my local safety, where my parents went, form took 10 minutes to fill out). Then I did the UC application, which I sent to 8 campuses. It took no extra time to apply to any more, so I just wanted to keep my options open.

After those were submitted, I realized that I should apply to a few private schools. I did the common application, and ended up sending that to seven schools. The supplements didn't take long, and they're all great schools were I could really see myself at.

Then I decided to apply to georgetown and brown, my reach schools. So although i applied to 18 schools, there were really only four applications to fill out. All were due at different times, and I know I did my best on each of them.

Whoever said that people who want financial aid tend to apply more places was right. I definitely had this mindset when i applied to all of these places. Half the private schools my family couldn't afford without aid. The more schools I apply to, the more chances I have to be given merit aid, I'm hoping.

So, that's my crazy. Best of luck to everyone.

10
