<li>Only one was on Common App. I'm an international so in the worst case I'll be attending a university in my own country (it's a highly regarded school, it just doesn't have the course I want). I suppose that means 4.</li>

<p>I'm ridiculous, but it's not as bad as it seems. Most of my schools didn't have supplements and I had a ton of safeties because I'm really paranoid.</p>

Now after getting deferred EA from my top choice, my list has ballooned to 14 </p>

<p>see this is the problem... people who apply to 42 colleges are one of the primary source's to the incredibly high competition to get into these great universities. if you are not serious about all colleges you apply to, then the answer is simple. don't apply to those colleges! do everyone else a favor and help lower this ridiculous and unreachable bar laid out due to the huge numbers of applicants and thus, the extremely low acceptance rates.
also, it is a waste of money to apply to that many schools. </p>
