How many colleges do CC'ers apply to?

@BlackRose101
Just keep in mind that applying to a lot of places costs money. Also, don’t apply to colleges that you aren’t seriously thinking about going to, unless they are a safety, because then it is just a waste of time.

Yeah, but sometimes you need to apply to schools that are not the best in your mind, just for the sake of making sure that at least one school will take you.

That’s what my two safeties are for, I expect to get in, and expect full rides. Not even that, I know I will. lolz

It just helps to add in a school or two like that. Even if I got full rides to them compared to another school I actually like, I would go to the other school.

Hi all, this might seem like a really stupid question but some people have been mentioning applying EA as well as ED - I was under the impression that if you apply ED to one school, you can’t apply EA anywhere else, even if that EA is non-restrictive?? Please clarify if we can apply ED as well as EA, eg ED to Duke plus EA to UChic, Georgetown, Emory and Michigan?

Also, for people with the benefit of hindsight, would you recommend starting on the main Common App essay first or supplements first, at this point in time?

Thanks!

If you apply ED somewhere, you can still apply to EA schools, just not SCEA schools.

I am applying to 11 (although I am still contemplating Vanderbuilt and Northwestern, so it could go up…)

Harvard (SCEA so the rest are RD :frowning: )
U Michigan
U Chicago
U Illinois
Cornell
Columbia
NYU
Brown
Georgetown
UC Berk
UCLA

I am not sure if that is a good idea or not. It will cost a ton and idk if I am going to be able to put my parents up to that. But we will see. I like the idea of applying EA to a more matchy school then Harvard like something in the middle of your list so you can cross off the lower ones if accepted, but I am in love with Harvard, and I hear the best chance to get in is to apply early so I have to at least try, right?

I was planning to apply to 8 but I somehow was able to cut it down to 5 schools:

Scripps ED
Pomona
Southwestern
University of Puget Sound
Willamette University

I applied to 9 (4 reaches, 3 matches, 2 safeties) and got into 2 (my safeties) and waitlisted (then rejected) at 2 (matches). I think 9 to 10 is always good just to be safe.

@Jaysha

try it then!!

Add in every school you like, try to find ways that you can apply for free.

I found out for one of my schools that if an alumni sent in a rec letter for me saying how awesome I am, then the school would give me a fee waiver! So when you go on a visit make sure to ask about fee waivers, and how to get them :)

If you do that you can apply to a few more school :)

I applied to 16, I think 9 reaches. I only didn’t get into one school, a super reach, so no complaints here! You’d be surprised at how bitter people were…you’d think they’d be more supportive!! Luckily leaving those folks behind in Hatersville :)
