Im a rising senior, and i currently only have around 10 colleges that im really interested in. I love all of the colleges on my list, and i would be perfectly happy attending any of them.
The only problem is that I dont really have any safeties— i have about 6 reaches, 2 matches, and 2 low matches. (maybe some of these reaches are actually matches, and i just dont have the confidence to say that they are). My dad actually works at one of these low match schools, so it could possibly be closer to a safety, but i still wouldnt go so far as to say that because its still a very nice school.
Am i at the risk of not getting into any of the schools on my list? I know that many people apply to 15+ colleges, so i was wondering if i should keep researching to add to my list. I really dont want to apply to a bunch of colleges that im not as interested in, but i also want to have options (since theres a high chance that ill be rejected from my 6 reach schools)
You just need one safety - defined as a place you will definitely get into, would be happy to attend and can afford. Two safeties are nice if you are the kind of person who will feel cheated if you have no choice at all. Of course, you can ‘go bareback’ if you are willing to take a gap year if none of your choices come through. If that’s just not an option, then find one more school. 15 is not the average at all - most kids apply to and attend their state Us. The ones with long lists are usually trying to get into something prestigious/selective where there are many more rejections than acceptance.
