So after a bit of thinking (or rather, should I say, panicking? ;) ) about the college application process, I thought it would be interesting to see how others who are also interested in medicine, and as a result, combined programs, are feeling about the situation:

*How many of these programs are you applying to?

*What do you feel is a good ratio of less selective/selective/most selective programs to apply to?

*What do you intend to do if you do not get into a combined program? The immediate answer is obviously the normal pre-medical route, but does anyone have some other insight?

I am personally considering/applying to 6 right now, one of which I would consider less selective, 4-5 of which are selective, and 1-2 which are extremely selective (all comparatively). I'm not completely sure yet about what I will do if I don't get into any of them.

I'm currently in a program, but I'll post what I did to provide some insight.

I applied to only two programs...one was selective and one was less selective. Your ratio really depends on what you are looking for. If you really want to be in a program, you better be applying to several less selective programs.

I was going to do the normal pre-medical route if I wasn't accepted. However, I know one person who didn't get in to a program and decided to pursue a different major. Another felt they could not make medical school the normal route and went overseas to Europe for a direct admissions medical school. They are now doing an American residency on the east cost.

I'm applying to NEOUCOM, which i just had an interview for yesterday, i think chances are good but i guess ill find out on dec. 10.
im also applying to the USF 7-year thing, not sure how selective that is.
the 3rd is washington university in st. louis, which i know is REALLY selective, so im not getting my hopes up.
though if i dont get in at any of 'em, ill probably go to WashU for undergrad.

i'm applying to seven. two are really selective (northwestern and brown). i probably have a better chance at the others because they're in-state schools. hopefully i'll get into one, but if not, i'll just go the normal way. i applied to NEOUCOM like redluke, so i'll find out soon.

It's not a very good idea to apply to alot...i personally applied to about 14 and got into 'bout 7 schools, when i only had an interest for about 2 of em and the rest were not very good fits for me....sari, i did the exact same thing and it just added alotta stress...i'd cap it to maybe 5-6 max

WOW!! 14??? That's crazy...and I thought I was applying to a lot. lol.
I'm applying to 7 now, btw. I'm "postmarking" 3 of them tomorrow, wish me luck!
