Wondering how many credit hours the average Wellesley student takes in a semester? 12? 16? What about double majors?
Whether you’re a double major or not, you need to take an absolute minimum of 12 credits and, typically, you can’t take more than 17-18.
A ‘normal’ load would be 15-16.
A normal load at Wellesley is 4 classes. Each class counts as 1 credit. You need 32 (with distribution requirements) to graduate. Labs are included in the science class as 1.25 credits, and the lab grade is averaged into the class grade so you only get one grade overall in a science class.
^ in typical university systems (or for federal financial aid) , it means 1 Wellesley credit = 4 credit hours, with lab =5 credit hours.
You could take two science classes with labs and one regular seminar/class , and still be considered full time.
The question was specific to Wellesley, though? Also, at Wellesley, you can take 3 regular classes (no lab) and be considered full time. You can also take 2 regular classes and one Undergraduate Research Opportunity (UROP, counts as 1 credit for 12 hours of work) and be considered full time. You have to take 3 credits to stay on campus and keep a visa.
@MYOS1634 Thank you!
@redpoodles Thank you, I was just wondering about credit hours since they can give a bit more insight on class time length and workload. I did hear many students talking about the distribution requirements during my visit, though.
