I'm thinking of transferring to Carleton after a year, but my school uses a semester system that requires 24 hours to be a sophomore. I saw online that you just multiply your hours by 1.5 to convert to trimester hours, but of course Carleton might give me less. If what I saw online is true, does that mean 36 Carleton hours qualifies you for sophomore standing, or is it more/less?

I don’t want to discourage you from applying, but before you get your heart set on transferring to Carleton, be aware that the odds are long. Very few spots open up in each class from year to year. Last year there were 287 applications of which a mere 8 were accepted. Carls generally take about 18 credits per term, so an incoming sophomore normally has about 54 credits from Carleton classes, plus often credit for work before matriculating such as from HS AP courses. It’s probably best if you concentrate this year on integrating yourself in the college where you have enrolled. Challenge yourself, try to make friends and get involved.

My heart is not set on Carleton. It would be a great fit, but my sights are not focused on one school alone. And yes, compared to previous years, last year’s acceptance rate for transfers was VERY low.

Thank you. I won’t be holding my breath, but I think I will have enough transferable credits and AP credits IF I somehow get in.
