<p>I was just wondering what would be the smartest move - 12, 15, or 18 credits for the first semester? My mom wants me to take 12, but I want to try at least 15. Ideas?</p>
<p>I'd say you probably have the ambition to go for 15. I did, and the workload was fine. Your mother probably just wants you to take it slow at first, but unless you're coming in with some credit, you need to take at least 15 credits each semester to graduate on time. (30 a year, and 120 needed to graduate) Good luck!</p>
<p>Thanks for your input. I am actually coming in with 12 credits (assuming I get transfer credit for the 9 college credits and 1 AP test). </p>
<p>What classes did you take you first semester?</p>
<p>I came in with 23 credits from AP tests, so I got many of my basic core classes out of the way. I didn't have to take any science and just one math class. (I'm a political science major.) I ended up taking English 1102M (Multicultural), Political Science 2000, Statistics 2000, Korean, and a Freshman seminar about scientists. It was a pretty enjoyable first semester, and after this semester, I'll have everything besides my major courses completed. Congratulations on coming in with credit. It helps a lot! Also, during orientation, take the tests they offer in foreign language, math, and english if you haven't gotten credit in them already. My friends took the Spanish exam during their orientation and some ended up getting credit for a year or even three semesters! Good luck with everything :)</p>
<p>I would also recommend taking a freshman seminar during your first semester at least. It's only 1 hour and you get to meet a small group of other students and a professor while discussing a really interesting topic of your choosing. </p>
<p>Also, consider this when you're signing up for housing your sophomore year: if I remember correctly, those with more credit hours from the first semester get first pick. Thus a lot of people who only took 12 hours ended up not getting the housing they wanted.</p>
