How many credit hours should I take?

Right now I have at least three classes I want to take first semester, worth twelve credits. Would another three or four credit class be too much with UROP? Is UROP THAT much extra work? Thanks.

Bump, same here. Trying to fulfill the cross campus transfer prerequisites for engineering the first year, too, and UROP at the same time.

I was also wondering a similar thing. I wanted to do MRun, Michigan tennis, UROP, dual major and minor + not to mention meet people and have a social life. How many classes should I be taking?

I took 13 credits + 3 more credits of research. You’re in a good spot. Your first fall semester has a lot of new experiences and of course football games that usually take up most of Saturday. While applying for urop positions it helps to have a flexible and open schedule.

12 credits + UROP is just right for a freshman. Give yourself some time to adapt to the new environment, make new friends and adjust to the quicker pace of college academics.

12 with UROP is pretty good. If you were to take another class, make it an easy, yet interesting first year seminar. I just went to orientation and most kids selected 14-16. I personally have 16, but I’m not in UROP. You could have difficulty if your orientation is late because classes fill up (some of the first year seminars are half full already and I literally was the FIRST orientation).

Stewta, how many people are usually at each particular orientation?

I was just at the first orientation. There were 100-150 people in our group, and maybe 2 other groups of the same size that came in over the last 2 days.

take 14 credits first semester, no more.

It was hard to tell for sure. @higgs7 I must have been on your orientation too, was it June 3-5? Probably about 150 put then a new group of 150 came in every day (although we didn’t really interact with the kids on a different orientation.

Yeah June 3-5. I was rooming on the 7th floor.
