dude trust me, you’re gonna have a good social life when you live in dorms, even with those workload. You probably will miss out on some outdoor events though.

If you’re a normal person, don’t worry about a social life; you’ll have one.

Ok thanks guys…I just found out I’m in Markley, so hopefully I’ll have a good social life and be able to get involved in somethings, and do well in these classes…

I lived in Baits and I liked it. I had a good social life as well. You will be fine. Just be open when you come on campus.

I took 13 and 16 credits. I’m now taking 15 this coming fall. Should be interesting.

qwerty, where should i go to borrow $2000? my parents? they would think i was joking if i asked, and even though my parents make a decent amount of money they don’t have ~$2000 for me to borrow. or do you have another suggestion of where to borrow money from?

i rarely get offended by comments on CC, but your comment reeked of such privilege. in the fall i’ll be starting my 2nd year working at a dining hall and i wouldn’t have it any other way. i don’t even work 10 hours a week but the spending money is nice (and i’d be straight broke otherwise) and i actually feel like i’ve learned a lot in terms of communication and working as a team. i wouldn’t have it any other way.

oh, and by the way, the starting wage at the dining halls is >$9 an hour. way above minimum wage.

You have to remember that this is the University of Michigan and most kids are handed everything by their parents…

^
true

But, it’s not that bad. At least compared to my high school.

I took 15,15,16,18. I’m taking 18 again in the fall.

I wouldn’t recommend more than 15 first semester of freshman year.

i know a person who would make ~300 dollars in a weekend by tutoring for a chem class every time the students had a midterm. you can charge more than 20 an hour for that and other common classes, such as econ 101 or math 115 or bio or something.

if you want something regular, i know a couple friends who teach at kaplan and the princeton review on south u. for high school tests they pay 15 an hour and for college tests like the GRE they pay 20 an hour. from what i hear its very laid back

and of course you can always get paid reserach

“qwerty, where should i go to borrow $2000?”

I was thinking private loans…

Now, not that I feel that I need to justify myself to you or anything, but I made a suggestion. Further, I made a suggestion not aimed at you in any way. This offended you? Seriously, chill out. I get that you might have a different opinion than me, it’s great that you enjoy your dining hall job, but you don’t need to be all self righteous about it.

I think qwerty made a legit point…but UROP will also give me research experience, give me more info about my potential major, and look nice on my resume, all on top of the workstudy pay…I think it’d be worth it?

I’m taking 16-17, including UROP.

The problem I had with UROP was that I noticed when a kid that lived in the room next to me did it, it’s almost as if it was more work than what it was even worth. I was working far less (could even study at my job) and I was making a lot more money. I think he had reports and all that to do outside of work that he wasn’t paid for (credit maybe?).

yeah, but UROP is more about the intrinsic motivation you have to do research than it is about the money or credits you receive.

I’m doing 14 credits first term including UROP as work-study so it’s only worth one credit.

Yeah, I’m guessing UROP will look better on a resume than a normal job.

I’m more worried how difficult my overall schedule is though…I heard Calc II is especially hard (I was one of the top students in my HS AP calc class, but idk if that matters at all…), and chem is really time consuming…and I guess ENGR 101 and PSYCH 111 won’t be a walk in the park either. Would I be able to manage all of this? Like I said earlier, I don’t just wanna drop PSYCH since it seems like it’s my “easy A” class out of the 4.

Not wanting to drop psych AND REPLACE IT with something else would make sense if psych is your “easy A,” but not wanting to drop psych and just focus on your other courses because psych is your easy A doesn’t make much sense to me.

Well I guess I think it won’t add too much to my workload, so it’ll be worth the extra work.

I’m just really worried because I recently went to orientation, and EVERYONE, peer advisers, CoE adviser, orientation leaders, etc told me to only take 12-15 credits, and I’m taking 18. With what I want to achieve in college though, I don’t think 12-15 credits would be enough…

Everyone says don’t take 18 your 1st semester…yet so many freshman do

^wonder how many of those freshman actually complete their 18 credits? Or is 18 credits really not that bad?
