I heard that the limit was 18 credits, but I was wondering what would be an advisable amount for an incoming freshman to take in the first & second semester at Umich

18 is doable if you’re taking easy classes. If you’re gonna be taking hard science/math classes, I’d advise to take 16.

I know a lot of engineers, myself included, that took just 13 the first semester (math 4, engr 4, science (chem or phys) 5). Some also took a HU or SS getting them to 16 or 17.

Second semester would be math 4, engr 4, science 5, and then you SHOULD take a SS or HU then.

Some people just take an easy first semester, to get used to college.

It also depends on how many credits you come in with

Somewhere between 14 and 16 credits is usually a good amount.
