Just curious for my own sake but figured it would offer great insight as well for those preparing to audition. Do those of you who stay on this site to help people from year to year know the number of accepted students for the MT majors for the upcoming freshman classes at the various schools? I know that some of the schools vary in the class numbers from year to year, some years taking a few more than others, some years taking equal numbers of guys and girls, etc.... Please post what you know. I guess of interest for the newbies would be acceptance number, and the number the school is hoping to yield and then the actual class size of the upcoming freshman class.
Thanks!

Penn State’s incoming freshman MT class is 7 girls and 5 boys. I believe they initially accepted 20 out of 450-500 applicants. They lost 3 boys to CMU, 2 boys to CCM, and 3 girls to Mich and Northwestern. My D is incredibly excited for the upcoming year, and her class looks amazing!

i believe they also lost one boy to Michigan.

and a boy to UCF

When you all say “lost,” do you refer to kids who have been offered admission to a school but chose to go somewhere else? That’s interesting, but it is pretty routine. I think the OP wants to know how many kids are offered admission at a particular school in order to yield the number which actually enroll.

Ball State University sent acceptances to 16 incoming freshmen. 12 will be attending, with it divided straight down the middle - - 6 boys and 6 girls.

The info you are posting is great. I know I would have appreciated knowing that a school offered x amount of spots to boys, x amount of spots to girls, with the hope of getting a class of x size…AND that this upcoming fall class ended up having x amount of students. Adding that some offers went to other places is also interesting not only to me, but I am sure to the people looking at the various schools. BTW, the one poster who mentioned a boy offered admission at both PSU and UMich will indeed end up going to UMich, she is correct. Thanks again for the posts. Hopefully we can hear about some of the other schools and their offers and final numbers.

I believe Webster accepted 30 MTs and 15 Acting majors. My numbers could be a bit off, but I remember hearing something around those lines. As of right now there is 20 MTs that accepted offers and 8 Acting majors. This info is gathered from the facebook group so there could be others that are attending that have not joined the facebook group. They said they auditioned around 650.

UCF made offers to 15-20 initially and then had an alternate list of 10. I heard they made offers to at least 6 on the alternate list. They auditioned around 500. The week after your audition you will get an email that let’s you know if you made the first cut as a ‘finalist’ and then later on when all the auditions are over you will get an email with an accept, deny, or alternate spot (#1-10).

*Correction: I heard Webster auditioned 650-750 combined with Acting and MT.

Re: PSU. I know they went to their waitlist so they accept a certain amount, then go to the waitlist as kids choose elsewhere.

My understanding with Elon this year is that they took 18 for the freshman class. The last two years the classes ended up being too large, 25 (class of 2012)and 28 (class of 2011) I think, so this year I believe they accepted fewer and then had a waitlist. Not sure if they went to that waitlist or not. Just know that the current students were told the incoming class would have 18. I think pretty evenly split boys vs. girls. Of course I don’t have verification of any of this yet, just what the current kids’ understanding is.

I’m pretty sure for their BFA in MT (as opposed to their BM, which I actually thing also had similar results) UMiami took 9 to yield 6, and also had a short waitlist.

Temple University’s MT Concentration has an incoming class of 14 (this includes freshman and transfers). I think a total of 18 were accepted, although there is no “set” number each year.

FSU accepted 13 and the incoming freshman class will have 9 students, 5 boys and 4 girls. We did not accept anyone off the waiting list.

Just read this in another thread–can’t attest to accuracy but it said the following:
“Indiana’s freshman class this fall will only be 8 students. Word is that they sent out 14 acceptances, got 7 yeses and took one off the wait-list.”

Ithaca’s MT class will have 24 – not sure how many they accepted; over 1,000 auditioned. They intended to have a class of 16, but had more than the usual number of acceptances.

Are you sure that Ithaca auditioned 1,000 people? That’s generally unheard of besides CMU or NYU.

I have 2 students who will be attending Ithaca in the fall, and that’s what they were told by someone in the theater department.

My guess is it’s either an exaggeration or includes the non-musical theater kids as well. I believe Ithaca generally has half that amount. But if it’s true, more power to them!
