Has Michigan released any information? They have suggested that they will admit fewer students EA this year, but how many actually applied?

The number I remember seeing was around 17,000

I am a work-study student in the office of admissions. From what I know, there were more applications this year for EA than there were last year for EA.

Blue85, I remember seeing 19,000, but that was before the final count. I estimate over 20,000.

Per Michigan Daily article earlier this year, 2013 EA numbers 23,000 a 4% jump over 22,000 in 2012. In 2011, 19,000 EA applicants. If Miw140 correct, #'s will be north of 23,000 this year.

Thanks halswag.

“Last year we got 23,000 Early Action applications. Totals aren’t complete yet, but so far this year we had even more.”

Sorry Alexandre…I was way off…working from memory of an earlier reported figure which is probably – given the numbers in the links in this thread – quite stale

It’s all good blue85. At this point, none of the numbers are official. I guess we can anticipate 23,000 EA applications and 52,000+ total this year. The U will likely admit fewer than 16,000 of them.

Is EA acceptance rate the same as RD acceptance rate historically?

“The U will likely admit fewer than 16,000 of them.”

My hope is that they will use the waitlist more tactically and get that number down to around 14,000…but that is probably wishful thinking.

Historically, Michigan did not have EA, it had rolling admissions, and the acceptance rate for those who applied in August-September was higher than the acceptance rate for those who applied in December-January. In recent years, Michigan installed an EA option, and supposedly, the acceptance rate for EA applicants was higher than the acceptance rate for RD applicants. However, this year, I suspect that the acceptance rate for EA applicants will be lower than the acceptance rate for RD applicants, but most EA applicants who are not admitted will be deferred to RD.
