How many EA apps did UChicago receive for the Class of 2020? Any guesses?

So what do you guys think? Worried about RD…

Last year saw about 11,500 EA applicants, and the school has seen applicant numbers jump more than threefold in the last decade. I’d expect that rapid growth to continue (albeit at a slightly reduced pace - there’s room to grow from 5-10,000 that just isn’t there with 30,000 applicants).

My guess would be 13,000 EA applicants this year (about 10% of whom will be admitted, if a similar number of spots are allocated during the early round compared to past years), and another 15,000 or 20,000 in RD. The school may move to SCEA in a few years’ time, as HYPS have, to keep early applicant numbers manageable.

I wonder if the 60% yield rate is overall or from the EA pool? Imagine it’s the overall?

That’s a high yield rate. Anywhere else that’s stat is cited?

Overall.

How many of the applicants for EA do you think is competitive? Not by CC standards, but by human standards lol. So, 30+ ACT, 2000+ SAT, decent ECs, etc… I would say maybe 70%???

I think 70% is a reasonable guess for the competitiveness of the overall pool (maybe 80%), but there are few EA applicants who aren’t “qualified.”

It takes a little research to be aware of EA/ED as a possibility, and I expect anyone doing that bare minimum of research would soon have some inkling of Chicago’s standards.

The EA pool would also have a disproportionate number of legacies, athletes (although not so many at UChicago), Rockefellers, etc.
