How many EC's is too many??

Last year, I was in:

Health & Wellness Ambassadors
Earth Club
Writing Club
International Studies Club
Key Club
Photo Club

Is this too many, though? Some people are in a billion things and keep like a sper-duper high GPA? How do they do it? Next year, I plan to be in most of those, along with joining new ones, and maybe doing a sports team...how many EC's do you think is too much? Or does it depend on you?

stop doing so many clubs and do something different

depends on how long and how far your dedication is for them.

not much, but i would focus on 1-2 and go up the ladder.

Well, I wanna be Pres. of International Studies Club next year…I’m Club Editor of Key Club…Pres. of Writing Club…like what, ib612?

for your clubs, esp, key, have you gone to their conventions yet? try to delve deeper into key club and make it a passion that makes you unique!

you can enter debate, since it shows leadership as well as wits!

Yeah, I was interested in Debate Team…I’m gonna do Beta Club…I think maybe I should do something out there, like outside of school…but I have no idea what that could be…

Two or more clubs is definitely way too many.

I don’t think so…lol…I get bored in school when I don’t have anything to do after school…

I’d join more clubs, but either they already conflict with clubs I’m already in, or they’re weird clubs like anime club, which while may sound appealing, consists of more cosplay than anime.

There is no defined answer. It depends on a whole lot of things. Part of it does depend on you and how much you personally can do. But I think you are in too many clubs when you are spread so thin you don’t make a difference in any of them. People like that are quite honestly annoying. I know some kids like that, and they aren’t well liked. One kid is in EVERY club (at least it seems. If you ask him he can’t even name them all) but he does nothing in them. People just laugh when he leaves a meeting or sits there and doesn’t do anything. Another person that comes to mind was on the editorial staff of our paper, but she didn’t come to even one editorial meeting. She was the butt of some pretty good jokes.

Back to the topic though. You should do clubs because you enjoy them. Don’t join clubs because you think it will look good. What looks good is passion (that key word has and will come up again and again). Put time and work into these clubs, make a difference, and titles will come to you. But it all comes down to work, and if you’re going to work at something, you gotta like it. If you can be legitimately involved in a laundry list of clubs, then more power to you. But if you’re just a “member” to all of these clubs, that’s too many.

See, I might wanna do a sport…but they take up SO much of your time!! You don’t get home until like 7 or 8PM every practice day! Clubs are in until like 30-60 minutes after school…

Yeah, I see what you mean, LHS. I definitely wanted to be more than a member, but couldn’t most of the time. But I want to be more involved in each club next year.

Sports would be good too. Outside school you can volunteer at a local museum or take action on a injustice or w/e

Yeah…maybe at the library…I live like right next to it, so it’d be convenient…

you can ask the library if you can teach kids how to read or enrich their lives with story time and advocate higher education through literature :)

Yeah, good idea…I should look into that…I asked them about summer volunteering and they said that there is probably not any positions I could fill, due to computers and technology and such haha

You don’t have to be a leader in every club, but you should have a couple that you are very involved with. It’s OK to be just a member in some clubs.

BTW, what exactly does the editor of Key Club do? I don’t know about your club, but ours is service based and does not require writing haha

lol I am gonna make the club newsletter, take pictures at events, send stuff to the Key Club magazine, etc.

I still say debate and library would provide the college the gist of your passion or w/e you want them to see

Yeah…thanks, people…any more replies are appreciated haha
