Right now I have 15 ECs with at least 50 hours of commitment and 3 jobs.
To me, it just seems kinda low. How many ECs should I have?

You have 50 hours of commitment spread out over the 15...each week, month, year? And you don't even need 15. Just a few that you're really dedicated to should suffice.

Yeah, it is kind of low. You should ideally aim for about 25 ECs and 5 jobs, with around 100 hours of commitment per year to each.

Seriously, what'd you think we'd say? Quality trumps quantity when it comes to extracurriculars.

There is no way that you put real time and effort into 15 ECs. I'm pretty sure that's every single club at my school. Are you going for a record? Where is the passion, unless all of them involve volunteerism somehow?

4 sports
6 clubs/personal (many before school throughout the school year)
5 volunteer (summer)

it's quite possible

Looks like the OP is just joining as much clubs as possible because he believes that quantity of clubs is more important than the passion that goes into a specific EC... Either that, or he is just sarcastic

Uhh... okay, I'll be sincere and give you the benefit of the doubt, at least, even if a few of the respondents haven't been. 15 ECs are a lot. Too many to list on the Common App. Too many to list on most applications. (Unless you consolidate some under a broader category name...)

Are the four sports team sports or club sports? Are they an every-day-during-the-season kind of thing, or hey-let's-get-together-Saturday-and-play-a-game?

... OK, how about you just tell us what each of the ECs are? That would help us judge whether you're doing too little (not likely), or too much (if it results in high quantity, low quality), or are too scattered, or whatever. :)

Sports:
Track 12 weeks/17 hours 4 years vars
Football 15 weeks/26 hours 4 years vars
powerlifting 26 weeks/12 hours (club)
(scrapped fresh bball)

Clubs:
NHS 36 weeks/2hours
Key club (founder) 52 weeks/2 hours
Science O 15 weeks/15 hours
Spanish(founder) 20 weeks/3 hours
Band 36 weeks/4hours
Tutor 36 weeks/3 hours

Volunteer
Hospital 10weeks/8hours
consolidated church 10weeks/6hours

What else should I cut from ECs?

Intended major?

are those hours approximated or do you guys keep track of them. is it okay to say " 2 hours a week for 2 years" or "15 hours over 2 months" ?

per week/weeks out of the year

hmmm when you're filling out the common app
i'd list the ones you've held leadership positions and the ones that mean most to you first. but also make sure that you don't seem "scattered" and you have a focused 1 or 2 areas where you can zero in on for your app/essays

How many years did you participate at that level in those clubs/volunteer acitivities? Was this all done in the past year? What did you do in Freshman and Sophomore years?

wait wait wait; I think you guys are really over doing it. 15 extra-curriculars?...are you kidding?. i mean I did around there but I wouldn't suggest doing more if its notw hat you want 2 do. Doing three extra-curriculars and sticking with it all four years of your highs chool career is enoughto impress the adcoms. 5 jobs?. I think doing one or two througout your high school years is good enough

Well, it depends on what school you want to get into, but I don't think your EC's are that great.

Sure, you have a lot of them (since you volunteer during the summer, it will be put on the "summer activities" section rather than "EC's" on the application), but none of your EC's are too impressive (except maybe your sports ones, depending on how good you are).

What schools are you looking at?

it is not how many ECs at all...it is HOW MUCH time you put into these EC's. if all you do is put your name down for six clubs and write those clubs on your application that means nothing and the person who devotes a lot of time to one club looks leaps and bounds better and more passionate and thats what colleges look for and like
