How many ED applicants this year???

Any idea of the number? will it rise or drop this year? it says Yale's early action applicants drops 17%, which in someway means number of applicants to other top Ivies would rise...

no, Yale’s SCEA applicants drops 5%.

There is no correlation between the # of applicants to Yale versus the # applicants to other Ivies…well I will refrain from saying no correlation but it is not a significant enough correlation. Just because Yale dropped does not mean UPenn will increase; it definetly might, but not due to this reason.

I predict around a 6% drop in UPenn ED applicants, I don’t know why, have a feeling it might hit that magic number (hopefully). Also as Jack said, Yale’s applicants dropped 5% not 17%, however, Duke’s applicants have risen by 32%, but at the same time Stanford’s REA applicants dropped by 4%, just when you think you have the pattern figured out, Dartmouth reports a 4% increase in its applicants. So, it all depends. No real correlation.

whats the diff between REA and SCEA?

Thanks

REA is restricted early action; therefore it has all the, so to say, “rules” of ED but it is not binding. If you REA, you cannot ED or REA anywhere else. SCEA (Single Choice Early Action) is the same exact thing, people also call it REA.

50 bucks says ED apps will go up modestly.

I think they will go up. Some people apply to penn just because they give out generous grants.

I think Wharton applicant # would decline. Out of the not many kids I know planning to apply to wharton in junior year, a few were persuaded by parents to not pursue the investment banking/wall street path.

But of course, those applicants are less adamant about business to start with, so the application pool could show a much more focused and genuine interest in business.

My guess would be less this year. The number of high schools graduates supposed to have peaked last year and will steadily drop in the coming years.

2013-2014 will be the peak in applicants for quite a while since the students applying now are the kids of the Baby Boom generation. I don’t know the population statistics of future years beyond the BB, but (unfortunately) those applying this year and the previous year have it bad compared to any other time in our history.

i applied ED to penn+i know a number of people who did. also, i heard that the applicants for ED to penn went up about 10% this year…

^^ where did you hear that information from?

Penn’s apps have been pretty steady for the past few years so I wouldn’t expect a change of more than +/- 5%

@Peppermint, if you could post the link as to where you found that information, it would be much appreciated.

^^^ agreed

Yes ^

Law of Averages: If I applied, my best friend applied, and my second best friend applied, everyone in the U.S. must have applied. therefore 10% increase?

i bumped into an article yesterday-6%+ increase from last year…
and now ironically i can’t find the article. there are 3842 applicants. aka 3841 ppl that will kick my butt out of penn. great. friday couldn’t come any slower!

oh i found it.
