How many essay examples?

All of CB's sample 6 essays have one extended example, and all of their 5 essays have two examples.

However, most prep sources say have three examples, one for each body paragraph in the 5-paragraph format.

Of course, the CB has access to thousands of 6 essays that it doesn't post; for all we know, all of those contain five examples. ; )

In your experience, how many examples work best? If you've already taken the SAT, how many examples did you use in your essay and what score did you get?

Thanks!

2 well elaborated ones, and fill up as many lines as you can (preferably both pages)

i had 2 examples, did 1 page and a couple lines. conclusion was cut very short since i ran out of time

8/12

Both of my daughters used three examples and filled up most of both pages. Both got 12s.

3 examples from literature and history (3 total, not 6 total)

At least 2, 3 is best though. Try not to use trivial personal experiences (go for trauma, depth, etc. ahaha they like that apparently) or just stick to literary and historical examples.

How does one manage to fit three well-developed examples in 45 lines? Or should you go for a very narrow example so it doesn't take as much space to explain it fully?

I usually can only fit about two examples, but they tend to be on the longer side...

Or should I just work on writing smaller? ;)

agree with maverick. i think my writing is on the small side already yet my words overflow.

Perhaps I should waste time in reaching for the eraser instead of crossing words out.
