How many finals is everyone taking?

Took 6 classes and only 2 finals. HAH.

But most people take all 6 or 7 finals at my school.

I have to take three.

None! AP classes are finished- USH, Chem, AB

H.English will probably have a final paper and test on a book, but I don't really count that as a final with minimal grade impact...

Spanish 3 I am v.exempt from final, have an A in the class (Though it is just the teacher's policy, not the school's)

And my finals at the two college courses I was taking were a couple weeks ago! Yay for my school year essentially ending a month early! Hence, why I surf CC and don't go to school (I've got tons of cough dentist appts. cough

We have to take one for every class
Last Friday: American Studies (history/English combo class), and Geometry
Tuesday: Photo and health (woohoo!)
Wednesday: Chemistry and Spanish :(

damn how i miss highschool workload...

I had 6 finals...

I think the highlight of it this year was my Eastern Civ teacher deciding at the last minute (well to be fair, a week and a half before) that we had not read enough, and assigned an additional 500 page book.

What was nice was that in one of my classes it became mathamatically impossible for my grade to be anything less then an A, regardless of the final... So that class I got to slid through...

Just glad I'm done now, and from the professors that have emailed me back it went pretty well.

Nahrafsfa I was only at a CC this year, but I know what you mean! UCLAri, what was your thesis on?

My senior thesis attempted to explain why there is an inverse correlation between per capita disposable income growth and incumbent party success in Japan (even though it's one of the hard and fast rules of incumbent party success everywhere else.)

My current paper is a lengthy op-ed arguing for Japan's permanent seat on the UNSC, and an attempt to do so using game theoretical analysis. So far, so good. Senior thesis? Not so good. But it was a good experience.

Nine. Seven classes, and we still had to take the exam in AP classes. Only seniors are exempted with A's.

How do those schools that exempt students from exams in AP classes calculate final grade? Do they just average the two nine-week grades? I ask because if I can provide proof of success and an alternate method, perhaps I can persuade my school to exempt AP students from those final exams.

I cannot wait til I'm a senior and don't have to take second semester exams. Phew.

Course, they're changing that for the freshies, class of '08 that is, and they WILL have to take both semester exams senior year...haha narrrowly escaped that one...that AND this years fresh class has Gym now count toward their GPA. Ahaha.

UCLAri what exactly was your major? Just reading here it sounds like your an Eastern Civ major...

Political science major, Japanese minor.

Eastern civ major trying to do regression analysis on election data? Pshaw.

I ended up spending a lot of time studying Japan this past semester. I had an Eastern Civ class as well as a Comparative Government class, both of which spent several weeks on Japan. It really is a fascinating country. I know as a History major I'm required to take some class of nations outside of the west (I'm very Eurocentric), and I'm really considering placing my focus on Japan.

Yeah, Japan's quite nice... I can say that without a doubt, I'm happy to have all that Japanese language ability and whatnot, but I still wish I had spent more time learning Mandarin. Oh well.

I've done too much work on Japanese politicst. I'm sick of reading about the LDP and the JSP and Komeito. China's nice. One party. :p

Oh, and if you want to learn about an interesting portion of Japanese history, I highly recommend the Meiji to pre-WW2 era. You get a very interesting overview of the events leading up to the Second World War, as well as an idea of what it takes to build democracy in an otherwise feudal country.

Actually yeah, in one of my classes (my Eastern Civ class actually) we spent a huge amount of time on the time between the Meiji Restoration and WWII. What I really find interesting about Japan, is even if you look at the country now, there seems to be a lot of Feudal relics that are still lingering.

Hmm... I don't know how much I agree with that. Tokyo has pretty much a complete hold on political power, and the prefectures are administrative bodies at best.

Now if you want to talk factions, I'll agree. Feudalism is dead, however, much like it is dead in Germany.

I took a bunch, and only studied for one, which was a good plan. I had exams in AP Chem, math, Latin, French, accelerated English, AP Bio, and AP Gov.

UCLAri, I was actually refering to the factions that exist. I don't know much about Germany post WWII, so I can't comment very much on how that system works. In Japan for instance if you look at the LDP, there are several factions inside of the LDP, which reminded me of how a feudal kingdom (and I know it's not the same, it's just always the image I got) would work... Heck the most powerful faction leader is called the Shadow Shogun.

Is Germany similer to Japan in terms of government?

Well, yeah, the LDP is factionalized, but the system itself is very much a centralized government.

Germany is a good comparison to Japan, yes.

I don't have very many this year thanks to SOLs.

Driver's Ed, Advanced English, and Honors Spanish III.

I'm only worried about spanish though since Driver's Ed doesn't count in the GPA (although it's favorable to get a good score since this is the same teacher who gives you your difficult gym grades), and I can make an F on the English Exam and still have an A. That darn Spanish. At least this is my last year ever to take Spanish for the rest of my life.

At the school where I teach, 9th, 10th, and 11th graders can exempt out of all TAKS test finals if they pass TAKS and pass the class. Seniors, who have already passed TAKS can exempt out of any second semester final if they passed first semester, had no more than 3 absences first semester and no ISS or OSS, or suspensions, then no more than 3 absences and a B average for second semester and good conduct as well. My D had no finals to take second semester, but everyone takes all finals first semester.
