I’m a sophomore in high school and I already took Chinese 1 and 2. But should I take Chinese 3? Will it look better in the admission process?
https://oira.unc.edu/files/2020/03/CDS_2019-2020_20200302.pdf (section C5) says that high school year 2 is required for admission.
https://catalog.unc.edu/undergraduate/general-education-curriculum-degree-requirements/ says that college semester 3 (9 to 12 credits if starting from the beginner course) is required for graduation. https://catalog.unc.edu/policies-procedures/credit-evaluation/ indicates that AP scores may count for some college semesters of foreign language, depending on the score and the language.
If you’re from out of state, don’t even worry about it the odds are so against you anyway that a third year of language will not help you get in/
Many colleges do want 3 or 4 years of foreign language. Look at the common data set (google common data set XYZ university) of other schools you are considering and check section C.
My son had three years of Spanish, still needed one more. My niece had two years go Mandarin, has to do two more.
My daughter got in with only 2 years of Spanish
