How many hours a day do you study

me? 10char

lol no, i edited my post

“Asians, as a whole, have an innate work ethic that is better than other races (IMHO). That’s what I think it comes down to, why are you condescending about it (OP)?”

Innate work ethic? Opposed to all the other races which are composed of lazy good for nothings.

There’s a whole lot of stereotyping going on in this thread. Positive or negative, it’s a little irritating.

0 hours. Asian.

actually even in a lot of highly academic classes authors and researchers will cite “asian family values” and “asian work ethic” for everything from the rapid industrialization of japan to competition in american academia to developmental psychology.

During the summer, 3-5 hours a day. During the school year, 8-10 hours a day. Both are by my own will. I’m Caucasian, by the way.

Silliest thing I’ve heard all day. It varies from person to person, as you can see from this thread. And most of what elsijfdl mentioned is from coercion and national duty (which we Americans also have, if you haven’t noticed); not “innate work ethic”.

0 hours afghan. top scores though…mom wants me to study hehehe but ..eh… whatever…

My parents are the opposite of everyone else’s. They always tell me to go out and have fun and stop studying. I think studying is fun!

Just with any other group, there are people who study like crazy and people who blow it off. I will say that some of the worst procrastinators/slackers and never-see-the-sun study people I know are Asian. There is no magical racial work ethic bonus, although perhaps higher expectations culturally. Naturally, you will do well in things if you find them important, even if the means may vary.

Personally, I found that you can either:
A)pay attention in class (ask questions, participate, take notes, just generally not dick around)
or
B)study outside of class (outlines, reading, cramming, practice tests/problems)

Rarely will you need to do both at 100% levels to do as well as you want, unless there is a particularly difficult exam/project/paper/midterm/AP. I personally like 70-30.

When did race come into this? O_o

And 0 hours.

2.5 hours in the Morning
Tennis Practice
3 hours in the Afternoon

perfect.

no no no, asians have different values. A lot of asians that I know have parents that push education from an early age and pressure their kids to study.
Why are African Americans, as a whole, dominating fball/bball? because that is what is pushed. Most aren’t glorified if the succeed in academics, so most choose to excel in something they will get recognition for: sports.

lol no one gives a crap if you’re asian. that wasn’t apart of the question.

but usually 1 on normal schooldays. maybe 2 before tests

ye, 1mx different values are NOT the same as having innate studying habits. It’s all based on parental influence.

“actually even in a lot of highly academic classes authors and researchers will cite “asian family values” and “asian work ethic” for everything from the rapid industrialization of japan to competition in american academia to developmental psychology.”

You don’t have to tell me about generalizations made about my own race. Being on these forums for months (and being Asian for my entire life) you think I haven’t had my fill of that yet? Sorry if it sounds like I’m taking offense, but again, it is irritating, no matter what way you spin it.

1MX, that’s the best assessment i’ve seen so far, and i partly agree w/ it.

"“no no no, asians have different values.”

-stop stereotyping? not all asian parents are like that and I know more white parents that pressure their kids than asian parents.

maybe not but you still cant deny that a high percentage of asian parents enforce these types of study habits/values compared to the relative percentages of other races

sure, but you can’t say that asians have an “innately” better work ethic. that’s not true.

usually 1 or 2 at most on weekdays

on the weekends sometimes 3+ or 0, depends on how I feel and how close any big-big tests are (ex. SAT)

Are we talking high school here? lol I only read over stuff the class before the class with the test. I didnt really study in high school…you dont really NEED to…but in college you do.
