How many hours a day do you study

“lol no one gives a crap if you’re asian. that wasn’t apart of the question.”
“When did race come into this? O_o”

Dude, do people not read the first post at all?

Last two word of OP’s post: “especially Asians”

I study 27 hours a day. :P

On a slightly more realistic note…
I hardly studied in high school. If there was a test or quiz, I would study for a week before, but otherwise it wasn’t very often. I did hit the books for my IB exams though.

University is a different story. I’m doing a BA, so I have a TON of readings. While I don’t “study” necessarily every day, I am always reading. For writing-based courses (like Political Science), I usually just do most if not all of the reading and summarize it in a few lines so that when I do my finals I have something to refer to. If I’m studying for a more analytical course, like economics, I write a summary sheet for each chapter as they are covered with all the formulas, graphs, and important definitions or theories. These are really useful for finals, and only take about an hour to make for each chapter if you have good notes. That approach worked really well last year as my highest grades were in my econ courses.

Edit: Not that it matters, but because the OP brought it up… I’m not asian. I’m greek-canadian.

“Asians, as a whole, have an innate work ethic that is better than other races (IMHO). That’s what I think it comes down to, why are you condescending about it (OP)?”

HAHA. Funny quote. Im gonna disagree though. Total BS. Lets see…Im white, and i work my ass off in school and get great grades. I do it because i am ambitious, not because of my parents. The only thing they care about is that i go to college, but they dont care where. I have a great work ethic (hence studying on my own…more than i need to).

So i have come across many asians in my time in highschool, and many of them work very hard. If i ask them what their aspirations are, they are often unsure, and say the only reason why they do so well in school is to please their parents. That is not exactly reflective of a good work ethic. Moreso just working to belong.

As for real work ethic, here in california it always seems to be that many mexican immigrants, and even some poor hispanic citizens have the greatest work ethics ive ever seen.

This one guy for example, that my brother worked with, became a citizen, worked 2 jobs about 16 hrs a day(plus breaks), both of them fast food, so that his family at home in mexico could live a moderately sufficient life (he had like 10 siblings).

I always get the impression that they work incredibly hard, in some of the most dreadfully (imho) boring jobs, just to make an earnest living.

Well, uh, I’m going to disagree with you. You can’t really say hispanics work harder cuz they toil in a sweatshop all day when asians have educational responsibilities and end up working all day at home. Asian families are more better established, so we have very little room to compare work ethic in the blue-collar industry. Similarly, hispanics tend to neglect school because of their unfortunate living conditions, so we have little basis for comparison in that respect. I’m sure that if Asians were forced to toil to earn a damn living, they would without hesitation and put in incredible effort, BUT most asians are past that stage (the chinese California railroad workers already served their time, eh, well before the present influx of illegal mexicans) and have successfully established themselves financially.

…to me, any asian who says that he or she studies hard to please his/her parents still has yet to mature. Asian parents push their students to exceed to get a better life financially. In the process, however, students sometimes are subjected to emotional abuse (because their parents care too much..out of love) and therefore misinterpret their parents’ intentions as merely selfish, which is NOT true. As these students mature, they OUGHT to realize this. If their dream of getting into good universities through academic success is also their parents’ dream, then do Asian parents want their grown children’s earned money? Of course not.

My daily studying schedule varies…but I usually work into the night past midnight, which I’m sure a lot of folks do.

I’m guessing you don’t play sports then?

0-2 hours per day with hardest courseload.

I’m 1/2 Filipino 1/2 white

im chinese, but im not the nerdy type. during school , spend about 2-3 hours doing homework/ studying (but that was in jr year)

during summer , i work, and i’ve been studying to retake the SAT because i did mediocre the first time last octover, and spend about 1/2 - 1 hr a day

but 80% of the asians (mostly chinese/korean/indian) study sooo much (atleast 4-5 hr / day!), it makes me mad. they are in like 6th - 9th grade, and all their parents do is force feed them SAT and taking summer school to try to skip grades and get into AP classes in 9th grade to get better GPA’s than everyone. its kind of pitiful actually. their parents dont even let them go to dinner parties because they are at home studying

that’s why i spend my time volunteering, helping people, working out at the y, playing sports, enjoyoing music, hanging out with friends, poker, etc

the worst part is when they say they dont study: ie. this asian girl who is going to harvard this year, and got 2380 on her SAT, and has been groomed to be ivy league since like 6th grade, and when asked about how much she studied for the SAT, replied, ‘i have 6 books that i really didnt do, in fact on the friday before the test, i borrowed a sat prep book from the school library and hastily looked it over’

All i know is that when i go into a restaurant, and some asians are working there, it gets done QUICK.

But when some white people are working there…not so much.

Im not gonna lie, asians on the whole definitely work harder, simply because of the nature of their parents.

Im stepping up my studying though for junior year = no free time and dropping track/cross country to just 1 season instead of all 3 seasons…college admissions sucks

It’s summer, so SAT prep about an hour to two hours.
Once a week I crack some AP books for about an hour

You mean study in terms of outside of homework? Usually depends on whether I have a test the next day and the subject. For most subjects before test day 0-1ish. For physics, it’s like 3-5 because it’s a hardcore subject at our school.

too many…

I study 12 Hours a day. I am asian. I am sooo nerdy. Is that what the OP wants to hear? Just to let you know, most asians never study and absolutely hate studying. I will admit, most asians are good in math. LOL.

seriously theperfectscore whats with you and asians? Seriously just give it a rest already.

Anyhow I usually study about 1-3 hours a day. Usually on thrusdays that’s when I study the most.

Perfectscore is just jealous asians have better scores than him =P

omg like over 9000!!!

hour or 2 a week altogether maybe?

Only the day before tests/exams.

But I really listen in class and do my homework, so I end up doing well.

I usually study past midnight every weekday and then not as much on Saturdays. Then Sunday I have tons of work again! How wonderful…
