What's the average number of hours you spend studying a week?

I hate this question. There is no one universal answer. It depends on how many classes you are in, how demanding they are/how many hours it actually takes to get the grade you desire, what speed you study at, and how many other things you'll have going on that will detract from study time.

Personally, I'm in a couple of reading heavy classes and a difficult math class this semester, so I'm guesstimating about 15-18 hours a week.

I study around 13 hours a day.

So you're seriously studying, in class, or sleeping? That sucks.

lol at hrtz. He's probably serious though, maybe a slight exaggeration.

I probably study around 5 hours a day. That's what 6-science class courseload will do I guess. Way too much reading.

well they usually tell u like 2 hours for every units or something, so 3 units that's 6 hours week for that class or something like that

If you follow the "study 3 hours for every hour in class" idea, you'll kill yourself...
I don't know who came up with that or why.

yah its a dumb idea i think, some people need to study for than others

Besides attending lectures, I don't. Does that help you in determining how much you should study? Probably not. Listen to the first guy.

^ very nice.

about 50 hours.

The version I heard is 2 hours...
but it really depends.

I know some people study more than 3 hours for every hour in class. However, they aren't trying to follow some kinds of "rule of thumb",they just try to spend as much time as possible to study...if there are two hours class, they'll study whole day,if there are 5 hours class, they'll also study whole day....wow.awesome!

I cannot study that much. I usually study a couple days in advance of a test, and generally do all my reading/assigned homework, but other than that? no, I am probably not going to study all that much. The only class I ever needed to study my butt off to even pass (and sometimes didn't pass after all that) was Chemistry. (which is OVER thank god) I understand people in the sciences having to study so much now. That sh-- is hard!

I guess that whole "2-3 hours for every hour in class" includes homework/papers/reading too? I can't think of too many subjects (besides science) that would require THAT much studying outside of class for that DIDNT include hw/papers/reading.

AUlostchick try engineering.

yeah, sorry, I was sort of equating all that stuff in together (engineering/math/science).

I feel you, hrtz. Engineering classes require a lot of time to understand. Especially fluid mechanics! I don't know anyone who enjoyed that class or got away without studying hours!

Ah, you're engineering. Now I get why you have no free time.

..I'm also engineering major.
it's pretty cool,isn't it?
we don't have to worry about how to spend extra time.

I think I study about 2 hours to 4 hours every day or so. So I study atleast... 14 hours a week. I'm a computer science major in the school of engineering. But I'm a freshman, so I think things will get harder.

Gold Shadow, I totally agree. I don't know what kind of whacko decided to tell people that. You should study at least one hour for each hour you have. I have 18 hours so I should be studying 18 hours a week or more.
