I calculated I spent on year 12 up to now 40 hours per week is it too much?

Do the 40 weeks include a part-time job?

Is it true? That's what you should be asking / answering, not whether it's too much... O.o

the thing is I have the ranges some weeks I spend 1 hour in one EC and the other like 12 hours. So if you add up via the upper boundary you get a gigantic amount of hours.

usually put the upper range numbers. Its bending the rules but no one really checks and guidance really doesnt care (at least not at my school).

ok thanks more views would be appreciated

I tried to put the middle range numbers on mine so i could put upper range on my main EC.

wow, that's a lot, are you counting your job or something?

40 per week isn't that much if you count all the upper bounds. I.e. if you volunteered once for 12 hours on a week, and did 15 hours of debate another week, and worked on science research 15 hours another week, you're at 42.

are you just taking an avg of every week that you did stuff?

I think the OP said he/she added the upper amounts.

That's still a ridiculous amount of time if looked at one way and could be cause for admissions people to look into your file a bit. I mean, thats 8 hours per day on school days...

Yeah, you would probably be better off putting down averages instead of maximums. Going to school five days per week and doing forty hours of ECs on top of that is the equivalent of working two full-time jobs!

Tech week for plays takes up 40 hrs a week...

yay! techies unite! I do lighting.
Yeah, production week is crazy. So much time.

Overall, I probably spend about 20 hours a week on school related activites (i.e drama, academic decathlon, and amnesty international.)

umm, that would be lying. do not put the upper ranges. calculate how long you spend on each EC on average per week. so, for example for tech, lets say there are 3 plays a year (36 wks/school year). lets say you do 30 hrs/week for 2 weeks before each play, but only 4 hrs/week for all the other weeks. then you'd say 6/3630 + 30/364= 5 + 3.33 = around 8 hours/week. To say 30 hours a week would be rediculous, and a lie. If you really want to put 30 hours a week then you must put 6 weeks a year not 36 because you are only doing 30 hours a week for 6 weeks, not 36!! be honest here.

I dunno, is it generally accepted protocol to combine your busiest weeks of the school year? Like, you may have volunteered for 12 hours in a week once, but do you do it regularly every week along with 15 hours of debate and 15 hours of science research? If not, I don't think it would be accurate to provide those numbers

I'm not criticizing you in particular zogoto, but you were the only one who presented specific numbers so I'm using it as an example
