And what are your majors and grades? What do you think is the average hours spent studying per week?

Plan II Honors–mostly As with 1 B last semester, should get all As.

I will usually start a paper around 11 PM the night before it’s due, and usually get a low A, which is fine for this year, but next year when we go to +/- grading I am going to put more effort into refining my work so I get the higher grade.

For tests, I wil usually study the night before the test from about 11-2, and then morning of from whenever I get up until the class starts. I usualy do well enough.

I usually only do the assigned readings for my world lit class.

Don’t take me as an example–I would study more and do all of the assigned reading and not skip class if I were doing freshman year over again. You might pull the grades off, but you won’t get as much out of school as you should.

Nice, I wish I could do that. How long are most of your papers? I couldn’t imagine doing a 10 page paper the night before. From what you’ve seen, is it common for other students to study so little and get A’s and B’s?

The amount of studying varies widely by class. It can also vary widely by which professor you have. For the government classes, I’ve studied very little, usually only a couple hours the day before the test. They were easy A’s. German was a different story. Last semester, I spent an hour to an hour and a half a day, every day, on it to make an A. That professor is notorious for being difficult. I learned a great deal in that class however. This semester it hasn’t been anywhere near that level.

The point being, it will vary widely from class to class, and professor to professor. For what it is worth, I’m a math major (actuarial science option) and I have a 3.9.

Could someone expand on the +/- grading?

wow that’s lameee…it’s gonna be even harder to get a 4.0 than it is already…

at least a B+ is a 3.33… the thread says it’s up to the professor so this system is not official?

Well, it means that a professor now has the option to put in a grade of A- or B+ or whatever, when previously they did not.

Most students are hoping that professors are ignoring the +/- grades and are only going to issue letter grades like it is now.

Dean’s Scholars Physics–All As

The amount of time I put in every class is different. Physics class tends to be more time consuming than other classes in terms of HW at least. This semester, I spent at least 6 hours per week finishing the physics HW, but only spend at most 2 hours per week for my other classes.

I don’t study that much for the tests, usually about 2 hrs the night before is good enough for me. But again, my classes are math-based, so once you understand and know it (usually from the HW,) you can derive them anytime easily.
