How many hours of physician shadowing and volunteering for applying for BS/MD track

My son (rising senior) is planning to apply for BS/MD track.

  1. He is hospital volunteering since last month for 3 hours a week. He is interacting with patients etc. By the time he applies at end of the year, he may accumulate 100 to 120 hours. Is it sufficent enough to put in the application.

  2. He is able to get one physician shadowing commitment from a pediatrican for 8 hours. We are trying to reach more doctors on independent practice as medical groups are rebuffing us. Assuming we can not get any more shadowing experience, is it a deal breaker. How many hours is recommended ?

  3. Will virtual shadowing doctors in my home country help ?
