I'd say with this year's schedule and responsibilities, I got an average of 4-5 hours of sleep (on weekdays). Are you a straight A student that pulls off all nighters or do you manage to get plenty of sleep? Or are you just the type that doesn't care and thinks 7 hours of sleep isn't enough?

I'm just wondering, cause I sometimes feel I worked too slow with my homework.
And especially any prospectie applicants for Ivy League, care to share please? ;)

usually about 6. my homework will take up as much time as I have for it, i.e. i’ll finish at the same time regardless of when i started. if i don’t have any time pressure i don’t get anything done.

Generally on school nights 5-6 hours, never pulled an all-nighter. But its by choice. For example, today I had no homework. But I’ll probably still be up until 12:30.

about 6 and a half, 4.442 W, no all nighters, valedictorian, probably could have gotten into RandomIvy but preferred UCLA so only applied to HPC

Everyone is so competative on here. I don’t know about your schools… but my school valedicarians only took like 4-6 AP’s in High school.
And I am a sophomore (2011) and am ranked 1st… But as a sophomore that isn’t really impressive, huh? No AP classes yet…
Anyway I get like 4-6 on average. I have pulled a couple all nighters due to me procrastinating… but mostly can get to bed by 11:30 and wake up at 5:00, I work really slowly through homework, save for math homework.

I never go to bed before 12 even if I have no homework. I like staying up late. So, when I had late arrival I got 7 hrs a night at most, but usually I get 4-6. If I pull an all nighter I spend about 1-2 hrs actually doing HW and the rest of it watching movies on the IFC channel.

I used to get 8.5 hours pretty consistently frosh/soph year, though I had a ton of commitments and stuff…this year, I had very few late-night commitments, and I just stay up and watch old TV shows and movies, so usuallly 6-7 on schoolnights. now with school ove,r probably 10-11…straight A’s, likely #1 (final ranks come out this week) after 4 years

How do you people getting 4-5-6 hours a night stay awake in class and have the energy for homework? At your schools, what’s the level of stimulant use - everything from coffee, Coke and energy drinks to Ritalin, Adderall, Provigil, and who knows what else? just curious.

^ Getting less sleep doesn’t have to mean you’ll have less energy during the day.

Typically, the more I sleep, the more tired I get. For the past 8 years, around 6 hours a night has suited me just fine. I do get more tired in the afternoon, but that has nothing to do with the amount of sleep I get. I’m just biologically nocturnal.

And, as far as I’m concerned, all of this:

“coffee, Coke and energy drinks to Ritalin, Adderall, Provigil”

I’ve never, ever, ever slept in class. I don’t do that. I also don’t take days off because I’m sleepy.
My parents don’t drink coffee and they don’t buy soda. I drink sodas sometimes at restaurants and I drink frappucinos when I’m near a Starbucks (bookstores, airports, etc.). I rarely drink caffeinated beverages but coffee is very popular at my school. Sodas and drugs are not. Energy drinks are had by few.

If you usually sleep 4-6 hrs a night, you get used to it. And besides that, drinking a lot of coffee makes me feel terribly sick, even though when I drink it it’s mostly milk and sugar.

I usually average 8-9, but my actual numbers vary wildly - I’ve pulled my fair share of all-nighters this year, but that was mostly in the beginning of the year when I had other things going on, and then my average was a lot lower… I could do less but tennis stops that… To everybody getting 4-6 hours of sleep, are you athletes, and if you are, do you think it affects your performance significantly?

i basically sleep when i can… i constantly pull all nighters and i am sure that if i got more sleep i would be doing a lot better than 3.4 for my GPA
