How many IB points do i need?

I am currently in my second last year at school, and I am doing IB. Around how many IB points would I need to have a chance of admission at the University of Pennsylvania? How about GPA? and SAT score?

I got deferred Wharton with 40 points (4 HL’s all 7’s, math business eco and bio, 2 SL’s both 6’s , spanish Ab and english A1) so I guess above 40 is good enough to be considered.

yeah i was wondering about that too! I’m on 43 points and I’m applying to Penn too. But my SAT I score reaally sucks. But do you think its ALL about SAT scores? I mean 43 points is a superscore for an IBer right? I’ve got great essays and ECs though. Would that cancel out a not-so-good SAT score?

IB scores don’t really matter much for admission – they’re more for placement credit once you get in. A high IB score looks nice, but I’d say you still need a decent SAT score.

It matters if you’re doing the IB diploma, we have no other grades to go by :stuck_out_tongue: and well I think if you have a 43 you should be able to pull off a good SAT score, atleast 2100+, so they might think your school inflates grades or something. Happens a bit in our school too, people with 1900 SAT are predicted 40/42 with subjects such as math HL, physics HL and Chem HL

I did the full IB Program myself back in the day – I don’t know how your school operates, but I had class grades and SAT scores, both of which mattered more than IB scores for me.

But yes a 40+ is an excellent IB score.

I applied with a predicted 43 and got in (RD, Wharton, international). Ended up with a 38.

Oh it’s different to our school then, we only get IB predicteds, yea we have semester grades but those are mainly only used for our predicteds. We dont have GPA or anything like that

Yeah, I do realise that it’s not all about my IB points, mostly SAT, but i just want to have a rough idea as to what i should aim at, cause they would take into account how much i got, right?
I know a guy who got into Wharton with a SAT score in the 1900’s, which is a bit surprising…

illuminar, if you don’t mind me asking, what was your SAT score?

got into huntsman with a 35 (my “new” predicted is a 37 but it was too late to send it anyways). i dont think its a HUGE issue- because some schools give students really high predicteds while others are strict about it (i dont think anyone in our school got higher than a 38)

whoaa. what was your SAT score MiddleEastern?
there are around 5-6 students in my school who have been predicted 45 points.

i submitted my nov score which was about 1800. (i then did it in december because i didntthink id get into penn and i got around 2000, so yeah that sucks haha)

I’m applying with about a predicted 31 ish.
gahhhh

Hmm, our school doesn’t even have predicted IB scores. We’re only listed as IB Diploma candidates.

^yeah same for me, but that’s my personal prediction lol

Oh haha. That would certainly make more sense.

Hey as u can see there’s no perfect guideline to the ib system and sats. Middleastern got in with a 35 and 1800 while I her huntsman classmate had a 42/42 and 2230. So I mean essays and ecs are important too but then again ppl with below average essays and ecs get in too I have seen. But I mean if ur ecs are stellar like someone I know ran the economy of a tiny nation for a week, your gonna get in!! Cheers :)
